Well I think the hawk is sold. Luckily it's to a guy on here that knows and appreciates these boats and there history. I had quite a few people wanting to buy it but I believe this is the right buyer. I will continue to be on here and as soon as I get back on my feet I WILL get another hawk. Thanks again for everyone's sympathy is this matter.

That's terrible man, sorry to hear.
When you get the important stuff squared away I have an early eighties 30' Corsa hull you can have if your interested. I've got way too many projects anyway.

Let me know what you have to have for it.

hoodoo 05-22-2016 01:17 PM

I meant you could have it for free, only thing I can't part with the trailer.
No rush, it's not going anywhere. I picked it up a while back thinking about an old school resto mod set up similar to the "still crazy" Velocity race boat I see running around Sarasota bay alot.
I got a feeling my Duramax center console I'm finishing now is going to have enough kinks to work out to keep me tied up for quite awhile.

Super cool boat👍

Excalibur40 02-26-2019 12:22 PM

Well I'm back!!!

Ok so its been a long time but life happens. When last we spoke my home was destroyed by a electrical fire I have been building my dream home and working ALOT. I have had a few small boats 22.5 crownline, 206 larson, ECT but I am really close to striking a deal on buying my excalibur hawk 40 back from the guy I sold it to. He has since sold the motors I had built and had ready to drop in but hasn't touched the boat itself. Wish me luck on getting her back.

Ironmanwb 02-26-2019 04:56 PM

Good luck I hope you get her back and make it what you want.

Excalibur40 03-01-2019 10:46 AM

Well she is mine again

when are you gonna haul it back home?

Excalibur40 03-01-2019 11:52 AM

Ok so here is the fun and excitement I enjoyed last night. So I got off work at 4pm went to 2 different friends houses and picked up one spare rim and tire from each "just incase". Stop by my house to swap out the right size ball and pick up a buddy to make the trip with me. Finally hit the road nothing can stop me now... My phone rings and it the local sheriffs department telling me one of my horse's is out and by the highway, CRAP!!!! I turn around and go get the horse back in and fix the fence or so I thought. Back on the road running late but I'm committed. We made decent time getting there but its starting to get dark. We meet the guy at the storage lot and look my baby over, she is not in quite the shape I sold her but no turning back now. We make the deal and pull her out of the gate so the guy can get back home. As he is just out of sight I here a sound a was afraid of one of the tires just blew after 200ft. No big deal I have 2 spares and a jack. Well the spares I brought won't fit the center hole is too small. Its 8:30pm 22 degrees and know tire shops are open so I got on Craigslist and called the first person the had used tires for sale and he was one of the nicest guys I have ever met (later I found out he was completely drunk haha) I unhooked and met him just up the road and followed in 30miles into the country on rock roads at 65-70mph just to keep up. He had yard full of junk cars and a gun on his hip the smell of alcohol all most knocked us down when he got out of his truck but we were at his mercy and he had the tire we needed and even a tire machine. $60. Dollars later we were headed back to my baby. Got the tire on and headed out no issues 65mph on the open road we made it home at around 4am the house met us at the end of my road but a little sweet feed in a bucket and a little barbed wire and he was back in. I unhooked and called it a night at 4:30am my alarm went off at 6:30 and I was off to work. Yes it sucked but yes I would do it again in a heartbeat. Sorry for the long post but had to share.

Ok so I'm gutting the interior... Plan is simple clean straight seats no bathroom no kitchen just seating and v berth. So my question is are the upright divider walls need for support or are they ok to take out?

Those sound like bulkheads, if that’s the case they are definitely important.

Excalibur40 03-08-2019 09:07 AM

The divider walls are warped in carpet even on the edges and not attached to the floor or top deck just held in place by 4 screws on the sides. They are not glasses and don't appear to have supported anything.

Not only don't take them out, but reinforce them! Give me an email address, I can send you a lot of 40 Hawk cabin gut and redo photos.

Ok so I found 2 454s they are nothing special but at least I can get on the water. So I'm looking for exhaust for the boat all I have is the gil 4" tips out the back if anyone has some old plain Jane stock stuff laying around for cheap it would get me one step closer. Some day I will get good exhaust but right now I just can't spend the money. Let me know and thanks for all your help. Pics of progress soon just have been working a lot.

Excalibur40 03-13-2019 06:40 PM

I found two pairs of exhaust with riser for $100. For all from a guy I know super happy about that. Next question and I have ask before but is my boat fiberglass or kevlar??? I'm gutting it and I cleaned one spot of glue off and its yellow. The v berth floor looks like plain old fiberglass the sides totally different.

Like me, looks like you have plenty to do. Lacquer thinner is good on old glue, just keep well ventilated.

Excalibur40 03-13-2019 08:48 PM

Ok I know I posting a lot but just wanting all the info possible. My boat was red and black originally and at one point was owned by tempest38. I have read thru all his post and 1 person said they went and looked at it and it was an 82 but it is a 1985 and titled from wellcraft. Also in the post from Don Able he states Bill Farmmer made 30-40 hawk and wellcraft only made 3 is that correct? I believe mine to be kevlar and airex top deck. no notch also.

hblair 03-14-2019 10:07 AM

Interesting info. Cool to see you back with the boat and making plans for the future. Do you plan on redoing the interior or going with a minimal interior?

Excalibur40 03-14-2019 10:24 AM

Plan is simple clean interior just bench seats and v berth.

Jons 04-18-2019 08:43 AM

Michael Alberts From Myco Trailer had a Black & Red 40 Hawk but his was a 1982 or 1983 Bill Farmer Hawk. I think Wellcraft made more than 3 40 Hawks, in Detroit we had 2 40s and over the years seen few in New York and Florida that Wellcraft built. But Don Able was the man at Farmer's and then at Wellcraft so his numbers should be very accurate. My old 40 just came up for sale in Lakes Of The Ozarks been sitting in a building for years in a estate situation. Looks pretty good but fiberglass top & bottom, also no notched transom. Boat would cruise at 60 @ 4,000 RPM with Big Motors. Good Luck with yours.

I need motivation

Ok so I have been busy working on my house and haven't touched the hawk such is life but I really want to get back on the boat all the motivation you can give I need lol

rak rua 01-13-2020 08:11 PM

Motivation....?
Houses are boring, everyone lives in a house. Come on man, get over it. Just outside your door is a cool old school boat which can bring fun to the family and friends. Now get out there and preserve a small piece of offshore performance boat history.

You've been through so much the last few years but it's up to you. Do you wanna live your life sitting around the lounge room, watching a big screen tv? Wouldn't it be more fun to see your little boy's smiling face when he says "Daddy, can we go out on the 40' Excalibur tomorrow?" Do it for Granger!!

All in fun of course but I hope it helps.....:)

You just have to realize it’s not going to happen overnight and just plug away on it. Try to get at least a little done every day or two.

well said! I have to repeat this to me !!!:)

Excalibur40 02-21-2020 08:48 AM

Small steps

I'm in Kansas and a its 17° currently but I did a few things towards working on the hawk I got 3 new tires on the trailer and got a new jack. The jack that was on the trailer was old and neglected like most are... it was a 2000lb tube style so I replaced it with a 8000lb square weld on type with a drop foot and side crank. It is so much easier to deal with now. I am thinking of adding some type of ladder/steps on the front of the trailer to get onto the bow any thoughts or pics of anything similar? I have steel and diamond plate scraps laying around.

F-2 Speedy 02-21-2020 09:37 AM
