Re: Prep outdrive for paint

We definatly have a few differences. I will post the numbers I got when I get back to the office on Monday. I did'nt forward them home. You definately have more items listed. I did not get any prices on the following:
NCP-271 High Build Epoxy Primer
NCX-275 Activator
DX-330 Wipe Down

Also I was quoted a quart of DAR-9000 and a Pint of DXR-80. The DCC line seems a bit more expensive. I can't remember the numbers I got.

Still seems like a big difference. but the high build epoxy primer does look pricy.

Hope this helps.

My advice is to find a body shop in your area that will mix you small amounts of primer and paint for a cheap price. I would finish a complete outdrive inc. blasting for $400.00 .Please be carefull with these product they will KILL you. Thats why the labels read FOR PROFFESSIONAL USE ONLY. The manufacturers know this stuff is very dangerous.

I thought someone said to wear gloves. Obviously a resperator would be advised. All I have to work in is my garage. Primitive for painting. What would you suggest? (Aside from having someone else do it)

Ok, Here are the prices I got.

1Qt- DX-533 $13.00
1Qt- DX-503 $14.00
1Qt- DP-40 $39.45
1Pt- DP-401 $22.65
1Qt- DAR-9000 $41.60
1Pt- DXR-80 $28.90
1Qt- DTR-602 $10.20

I figured I could get some cheep thinner to clean the gun. I see that there is not enough reducer here for the paint. Does the primer use the same reducer?

Wear gloves and a good respirator. Also your eyes are an easy target for chemicals to get into your blood stream. Spray away from people and use a cheap fan to dispurse the fumes.

If cases are gutted, why not powdercoat?

the project cam out pretty well do to the prep work it has been very durable

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=129634

I found on of the most critial item was good lighting when painting I thought I had good coverage and when I inspected the next deay found some light spots and had to recoat which effect some of the gloss

I am under the cost of what it wouold have costed to have done proffesionally and I have a Sata Mini Jet to do more with

II have a local recycling faciility that I brought all of my excess supplies.

I will try and do somemore paint work as it was a fun pro

Alway use a resperator and I am going to no wbuy one that is a full hood to get the added eye protection

Re: Prep outdrive for paint

Boating season is over in Michigan and my drives are coming off this weekend. I have a guy to media blast them and a freind is going to paint. He did his base coat / clear coat a couple years ago and they still look awesome. I'm sure being rack stored helps but so so am I.

This is probably one of those projects that will take twice as long and cost three times as much as I originally thought. Wish me luck. :D
