I hear ya on mounting location. I am really looking to hold off the installation until I got it dialed in with a new prop. I was going to use my buddy's go pro and see how the water breaks off the transom and hits the lower. To be honest, I not sure how well they will work. However I feel pretty confident the boat needs them. I need to be able to keep the bow down in bigger water. This past summer heading to Kelly's island I got caught in some wind chop and cruiser wakes. It really caused the bow to flop around. It really slowed us down. I hear ya on k-planes being overkill. I just can't bring myself to Bennets. I hate them with a passion. I just can't bring myself to think of them as an option. K-planes would work... I got a pair sitting on the shelf.... I will have to post a pic of the placement location I am thinking of. I really appreciate your feedback on it.
Thanks,
Jr.

If ytou do go with k planes, maybe heavier oil or something to slow them down a little bit, hell my 12" lencos can get me in trouble quick.....

Don't get me wrong, K-Planes are an awesome product. But they were designed for much bigger boats. Not only are the tabs themselves pretty big (and beefy), but the trim pumps that power them take up a ton of space an aren't exactly light weight. From a durability standpoint, they're very hard to beat though.

Your boat and mine share many characteristics. Same basic length, beam, motor, etc. But we also have a similar problem - lack of a lot of space for extra equipment. Oh, and extra weight that doesn't mean anything in a bigger boat makes a huge difference in performance for us. Even moving where a single battery sits in our hulls makes a big difference.

Given all of that, when I added tabs, I didn't go with K-Planes - even though I could have snared a used set for next to nothing. I went with a heavy duty 12"x11" tab from Boat Leveler. Nice 1/8" thick material and only one trim pump to mount and plumb.

Kevin at Progression told me I was insane to consider anything but K-Planes because "You'll break them off in five minutes." Well, that was 18 years ago. Not a single problem and since I do almost all of my boating on Lake Ontario, they get used every time I go out and have seen me through some hellacious water. I'm not saying these are the tabs for you, but the size is right in the ball park. Placement? We can talk for hours on that.

Hey Tom,
Thanks for the chat this past Sunday... I am definately not sure what I will put on but, I pretty sure I ruled out using the K-planes. Not being able to adjust the full up position I think is the main deal breaker... Thanks again.

If you are ever on Lake Erie let me know. Love to see your boat and the work you did. I have a 23' Kryptonite and we make it over to PIB and Kelleys Island a few times a year.

smashm,
Thanks for the kind words! I am glad you enjoyed the thread. Its definitely been a labor of love.. I cant thank enough all who helped... Thats pretty cool your originally from C-Town. I have some friends from North Olmsted that we boat with. The only person I know from the Dock of the Bay is crazy Kenny Rosen... He actually used to dock over at Venition in the 90's. How do you like Fort Meyers? I have a good friend in the cape that works on boats. He's been there for at least 7 years and loves it... I gotta ask, any pics of the gun?
