I must have been hiding under a rock, this is the first time I've seen your thread. Fantastic work and that is one cool looking boat!

J-Bonz,

It looks like you finally got to spend some quality time on the water driving that thing - as opposed to in the garage working on it. And I must say, it looks like it turned out fantastic! As you know, I followed your progress every step of the way and enjoyed all of it. Great job and great post!

As for the pics of your son, man that brings back memories of my son in my former Checkmate, and my current Progression. I even have almost exactly the same picture of him standing on my lap driving the boat when he was too young to even walk. It looks like he's having as much fun as you and your dad. Keep taking lots of pictures because before you know it, you'll be taking one of him as he takes off in the boat with his girlfriend. (Ask me how I know that.)

Speaking of the boat, looking at the pics, I'd say you've done some experimentation with motor height on the jack plate and it looks about right to me. How's it running for you? Remember, we have the same basic motor on both of our boats.

Tom

Hey Tom,
Thanks for the kind words. It was good to get out in it this past summer. I still have some finishing touches I need to work once the temp gets back up in the 30s.... Its been way to cold to work in the shop.. Thats cool you have a similar picture of your son... I will never forget the day.. It was a really nice excursion out on the water. I give you credit you let your son take the progression out with the girlfriend. You guys must have a great relationship were you can trust him.. I hope for the same once the boy gets older.. As for the engine set up, I still have some work there. I hope to get some dialing in completed this spring. I will pm you when it gets closer to that day,
Jr.

Just got back from the shop. Real happy to see the boat again! I got some odds and ends I need to work on come spring. New steering wheel, shore power, relocation of 12v battery switch panel, and some k-planes. Got the shop regrouped and ready to start...

Could we see a picture of the shop so I know what project is going to be done first.

Just be careful where you mount the K-Planes. The wrong spot can either cost you speed or limit their effectiveness. And it probably goes without saying that how you mount them can be critical to the long term health of your transom.

BTW, nothing against K-Planes, but you probably don't need something that heavy duty for your size boat. (I can say that based on personal experience.) And finding a place to mount the trim pumps can be a real challenge too.
