I have always used ppg's single stage concept with an epoxy primer/sealer. Marine engines really never get that hot and a good quality eurathane works fine.

I used just about every type of automotive paint on engines for the street and as long as the engine is properly prepared and primed I have never had any problems. The biggest issue is if rust is present.
