I would guess that the delam prob on this boat is probebly from not enough film thickness. That is most likely the reason more than poor prep or cheap product.. By the time it was sanded and buffed there just isnt the mills there. And as far as the "time window" to clear that is kind of a fairy tale. Spies really sells to the custom crowd there "open" basecoat meaning you clean when ever but you can do that with any of the good paints (Sikkens basf standox etc) spies just promotes it where the others dont. The biggest thing with leaving base open and adhesion is dirt. Base is porous and paint manufactures are worried about something sitting around a dirty body shop getting filthy then some guy blowing it off and clearing it. Sorry for the long winded reply just thought I would clear up some misunderstandings.

Dont know details about Sikkins or the other akzo nobel products, demod them and wasnt impressed. Standox IS Spies Hecker. Same product different label. Sister company. Standox was just sold in america before spies was. Dupont claimes to be a "good Paint" we used it for 30 years. Thay Will Not warrenty a Delam if you let the base set outside thier window. Dupont now ownes Spies Hecker but is in no comparison to it or standox or even Sikkins. I did like Sikkins better than the "watered down" dupont that we blindley used for years but we did not have any Comebacks with Dupont just production issues by taking 4 to 5 coats of base to get it to cover. LOL. It looks like the German Paints seem to be on top of the industry. Smartest think Dupont done was buy Spies/Standox. Dave you use PPG. im not fam with the window on it. do that advertise one? and ppg is known as a "Good Paint" just curious if its a paint quality/window situation or if its only certain paint companys period. sounds like its just the German companys that dont have a window. Glassert is very high end also. ill find out about them tomorow. My dist "Finishmaster" sells it......now thats long winded. LOL.

That IS odd isnt it. I iwonder why no one else does. Perhaps its is because of the custom market that spies is a part of. But House of Kolor advertises that thay have a window that you must stay in and thay are the leading CUSTOM paint company..."Inferior product thoe in my opinion"

I have used HOC for many years. They do make a great product. They reccomend the inter coat if your going to let it sit for a bit (clear base) and it is scuffable and works great! A good friend of mine is a Spies guy. I haven't used it but I also maybe oldschool because I don't believe in going more than 12 hrs of flash.

I have a question. I am in the middle a of a big custom paint job on a sonic . With 7 different colors and having to back tape each one there is no way to do this in the 24hr window . I am going to use Imron MS1 clear .I know all the big custom painters are good but not that good . with all the colors that are on some big boats like skaters there must be a way of applying the clear outside the 24hr window . Please help avoid a disaster .
