I want to remove a painted stripe from the deck of a glass boat about 2' wide.Has no primer under it.Buffs down to the white jell coat but takes a while.Is there any remover I could use to speed up the process.Really don't want to sand it 13'long .Maybe some kind of stripper.???Thanks JOHN SR

I'm not an expert in paint removal but I feel like if you used a stripper it would take off more paint then you want, if it was mine I'd use a heavier grit sand paper and sand through it and then polish it back out...hopefully someone else can reply with a better method

we had some good luck using easy-off oven cleaner to remove some stripes off a 30yr old cig 28ss.......you have to be careful and watch how long you leave it on though...he left it on a tad too long and the red stripe we were taking off stained the gell in one spot....a little wet sanding took it off though.

Try some Acetone. It will take off paint with some rubbing but won't hurt gel.

I have used it on cars/trucks but not on gelcoat buy would think it would be ok

I've used one of those on vinyl, and it was mediocre at best (on a 10 year old graphic). I think the OP is talking about paint - I'm not sure the 3M product is designed for removing painted graphics.

With that said, I'd like to know what does work best on paint. I've got some things I'd like to differently on my boat.

Don't mess with any of that stripper garbage. Take some wet sand paper like 800 grit and get to work. Or if it's gel coat take 320 grit DA and sand it off won't take that long then wet sand it out and buff it out. If you try to use solvents and oven cleaner LOL WUT. or just pay a local shop a couple hundred bucks and have it done right

I recently removed a name and registration numbers using easy off oven cleaner. It had been on the boat for 10 years. It came off easier than when I tried MEK and laquer thinner. It did discolor the white base but it buffed out easily.

think like said...I would wet sand it off, start with 400-600, see what works well, then work back at it with 1000-1500 then buff, no gel staining this way

I am in the middle of a restoration of a cigarette café racer had factory stripes down both sides that had to come off. easiest way is to use min #80 on DA sander to get through most of the stripe then keep following up with finer paper til you are down to 1500 - 2000 then buff original gel back out. I actually started out with #40 then went to 80 but I am repainting the boat so was not as worried to cutting into original white under the stripes. it takes determination. in my case 35 feet each side of imron stripes. keep at it and eventually you will have a very smooth surface to buff. good luck!! it will be worth the process.
