383 Stroker kits
 

Anyone have any experience with purchasing a stroker kit online or at a store? Have a GM 350 that I would like to look into making a 383. Also, need to get headers for thru-haul. Any info would be great!

How much engine experience do you have. You will need to clearance the block, sometimes rod bolts with a larger camshaft, the assembly will need to be balanced after clearance work is done. It is definately not a bolt-on, going to a 383.

I actually build turbine engines for a living and have been messing around with motors for quite a while was just hoping someone had had some good experiences with a site or manufacture.

check chs engine they have 383s for 2395 all done with a 7 yr warranty

I think I will be useing the blocks that I have.....so just need the "Kit" so to speak. I think just a rotating assembly, Is this right?

you'll have to have the blocks bored and clearanced for the stroke and the heads redone and no kit you buy won't need some balancing work done it all depends on how much hp you want if you're staying around 400 a cast crank would be fine I used scat for mine most of the kits come with flat top pistons if you use your heads you will need dished to keep the compression ratio down I looked at all the threads on here to get an idea of what parts to use for my hp goals

The SCAT crank kits are decent quality kits for the money. Calies cranks have hardened and treated journals and are of a higher quality craftsmanship but are also much higher in price. Keep the compression ratio in the low 9's don't be tempted by high compressions in a marine engine...it seldom ends well. I would personally not order your kit pre balanced in the event you need to modify the rod bolt heads for clearance issues. I also recomend you have the rotating assembly balanced after you have everything fitted and clearanced...when you are holding your engine at WOT across a lake you will be glad you have it balanced, it is so smooth and vibration free.

I've built a few and by the time you pay for machine work, the one piston that was smaller then the rest, the balancing, and whatever else didn't go quite right you'll end up spending more than you imagined. That 2395 # sounds like a good deal to me.
