I've started the second rerig on my Hawk. Last year put the bravos on and installed Hawk marine power 525's.
This year I pulled all the bravo components off, sold the B&M 174 blowers, upgraded to 420 mega blowers with superchillers, replacing my Cmi e-tops with sport tubes, and am getting ready to install the SSM III's. Just about ready to start assembly. Boat is getting the transom plugged now, will be making a final deciscion for x dimension and prop shaft height this week.

Very nice project. Coming up w/an accurate X dimension could be quite the project in itself :helmet:
Good luck and keep us posted.

I didn't have to do much to it besides pull engine and cleanup the bilge and rigging. I sold that to renovate my kitchen. Now I have this 97 24 outlaw I purchased in March. It has a 454 with spun bearings - so the motor was out - no test drive. I knew it was a project, but not this much. I have done some fiberglass work on the transom plugging holes, re-coring, some gel work and some structure in the bilge. I have purchased a 454 crate motor with 8 hrs. I'm hoping to get the motor in and running before I need to winterize it. Here are some pics.

You should raise that x demnsion about 3 inches on that boat before cutting that transom hole..I have a 88 240(outlaw) with a x raised 3.5 inches..made a world of difference with this boat...

Great thread... Keep the inspiration coming!!

Long time lurker here, with plenty of experience with hot rods and Harleys, but reading up and learning as much as possible before jumping into my first boat project... Too many good reservoirs here in AZ to pass up... And too close to Southern California not to run some real offshore once my skills and boat get dialed in...

Im thinking a 24x7 type boat, or maybe something a little bigger, want to be able to handle some rough water without worry... On a budget, of course.

Here is my 1996 24 Baja outlaw. This is my first project boat. I had a 24 outlaw that was all stock and I wanted to do things to but found one with hydraulic steering and trim tabs. So put me a little money ahead.
bought used 565 engine a few hundred miles away. Found some used manifolds and risers from another guy. That is why I had to make new exhaust holes. was cheaper to plug holes then buying new risers.
Keep in mind this is my first project boat so I learned things not to do on the next.

Bowtie, welcome aboard and dive right in. Like anything, (bikes, cars etc) it's all about planning, budgeting and knowing what you can/can't tackle your self. It's big fun and a great way to get in on the cheap and learn a ton along the way.

I don't know why but boats seem to show neglect a lot worse than cars do. You have to really have some forward thinking and vision to look past some of the terrible looking crap we see with boats.:eekdrop:

Scared to ask but yes the motor did come from Oklahoma. The guy had two one that was fresh and mine that had around 200hrs.

Well I have put 8-10hrs on mine and seems fine. I think mine is down on some power we are going to do a cylinder leak down test this winter and see whats going on. Otherwise I am real happy I paid 5,000 for it with a air cleaner, carb, intake and oilpan. It is exactly what he said they were the numbers are stamped on the block from innovation marine in FL. They told me $11-15,000.00 just to freshen up. So i felt good with what I got.
