Runs great and is manageable anywhere. Boat runs 92-93 mph if you got the nerve. I rarely see above 80mph. Plenty for me...
A bbc in a 22' would be more mild and probably cheaper. But the sbc is pretty cool when you tell someone its a small block..

Oh.. it's in a 1986 22' Velocity
Very similar to mine- although you are claiming about 94 HP more using the same heads and intake with a slightly more agressive cam- you have a dyno sheet? (lf you are dry you can run a more agressive cam for sure with little worry about reversion)

True I could make more beans with a solid roller vs a hydraulic- I dont want to get into the top every 10-20 hours and start making valve adjustments anymore- too old for that crap. Also I thiiink at .630 (I see why you ran a shaft rocker system) of lift were into the springs not liking to sit while being compressed or they lose their rates.

Also curious what your oil cooler looks like- can you throw up a picture of that? I use an aeroquip- see on other side of battery.

Curious that you still have all the recirculating plumbing on the engine also how are you steering that boat- external?

Agreed on the SBC- Nothing like putting a BB boat "on the trailer" then showing him a small block.

Thanks.

Your quest is one I am fond of and have undertaken many times.
Not my first rodeo.

- conversationally-

Mach1's got an interesting rig as well. I like it.

His 22 foot V runs the same speed as my 21ft tunnel hull with 94 hp more.

Hes giving up some HP to run his recirculation system.

Aside from added maintenance - and drive lifespan from shifting above idle (he didn't spec the duration or overlap that would determine idle quality) he can run as big a cam as he wants with dry exhaust which could be why hes making the power he claims.

Its also straight out vs an s bend like mine - but that manifold looks really short before the collectors come into that collar piece- looks like a gen1 stainless marine setup.

Ill bet that sounds beautiful at 6200 RPM - Id probably get a ticket if I had a similar system.

I stop spinning mine at 6

He gets more speed help from the drive than you or I do.

1. The alpha is a really hydrodynamically efficient (skinny) drive, and very easy to turn from a parasitic loss perpective - but they are weak, and were rarely paired from Mercury with big blocks for this reason. But when pushed in only one direction they can hold up for a while- if used offshore you're lights out pretty quick.
2. His boats pretty light which helps it live a bit.

Im paying at least 2-3MPH penalty for the speedmaster lower (I much prefer the imco on my other boat) and another 2-3 MPH for the bravos fat gear case to "tax" my mills output to the prop.

Back to cooling- with the recirc pump off and the external oil cooler I've held the thing at 6K for a looong time and only ever saw 140 on the oil temp and 100 on water- so its really running cool.

-Thinkin out loud-
