If u had it apart why would u just change the impeller??? If u look inside the houseing more than likely there will be a wear mark in the back. I change both and keep my old one for a spare cheap insurance,

Look at the wear plate. If it has groves in it (most likely will) it needs to be replaced. There is also an O ring infront of the wear plate that needs replaced to keep it from leaking.

I have replaced the impeller only several time, even turning the plate around. As I get older my time is not worth not doing it right the first time.

I have always had to change the cheap plastic housing with the impeller. The housing seems to wear just as bad as the impeller, that's why I switched to stainless this year. By the third season, I'm saving money.

You'll lose vacum if your plastic housing is grooved at all. Just replace it and save yourself possible issues if scored at all.

Mallory ones are just as good as Merc.

I sell and install all 3 just depends what the customer wants. Merc, Sierra & Mallory. Merc and Sierra are the same manu and by far the Mallory Marine housing is better and has better quality than the other 2. No comparison.

If anyone needs one of the kits let me know. It does not matter which one to me as I stock all three. I have nothing to gain nor lose to voice an opinion which kit is better. FYI

It is always wise to change as a complete kit instead of just impeller. Keep in mind the housing is plastic, they wear, they crack, they groove, they break. Mallory holds up better and is stronger. Their housing weighes double compared to the other 2.
