looks good, wish I could do that. My cmi's water fitting is not in the same place as your's. Mine would be right in the way of the filter mount.

The headers I have were originally on a carbed 454, The new ones on my 540s have the same fitting but it is not used. I replaced the stock manifolds on a Baja I used to have with Emi thunders & was able to modify the stock bracket to make everything fit. Randy

Make or buy a bracket, then mount it on the inside of the transom out of the way and right side up so that you can put a small pan under it when it is time to change it.

That's how mine is mounted, I have a piece if aluminum angle bolted to the transom and filter head. I use the extra long 2qt filter, I just put a coffee can under it when I change it, no mess.

Do you have the long or short filter mounting bracket? Anyone have pictures? I don't need to see it to figure how to make something, just want to see that it isn't going to look rigged up.

Oil filter mounts

Here is another option the brackets can be mounted in front like this or in the rear on the other head.

My filter head looks different than the one in Randy's photo, it may be something from Summit. I don't have the ability to post photos so I can't show you what mine looks like. The aluminum angle is covered by the filter head and filter and the whole thing looks very good especially with all the new -10 stainless I ran last year.

filter relocate info.....

I switched to stainless marine exhsust but didn't like the stock location of the oil filter. I ended up buying an hp6 filter head from a OSO member (if I recall corrrctly I paid $90 or $100 for it). Mine didn't come with the mounting bracket but I was able to buy a nice billet aluminum one through ateco engine & dyno shop www.atecoengines.com (go to their catalog then click on parts & accessories) for around $60.00 Mine mounts to the back of the head on the port side of the boat. I know you said you're not really interested in using a big filter so this set up probably isn't what your looking for but hopefully you may get some good info from my post. I also swapped out most of my oil hoses and fittings at the same time with the Summit Racing -12 pushloc hose and fittings because the factory stuff is restrictive! Another alternative would be to have someone that's competent in tig welding weld a mount on your headers for you. That would probably be the cheapest route to go. Best of luck, Mark

I am not opposed to a large filter, I guess I am just going to try and do something on the transom. The headers are out because of the water ports and the rear of the engines are out because of the oil coolers. I guess I really have no other choice.

Anyone have pics they could share of what they did with a transom mounted filter assembly?

Also, I would assume screws are not going to cut it. Soooo.....short lag bolts?

I will take some pics of mine and post tomorrow . Been mounted like that in my cat for 12 years now . Mounting on the transom also insulates the filter from engine heat and vibration plus changing the filter is a breeze .
