see all the holes on the bearing retainer that also is a 703 version part.
its all about keeping this bearing cool.
The three little slotted screws will be removed and look closely they go in the blind tapped holes too use as jack screws.

How common is head separation on those bolts? Any damage?
... and is it a matter of pulling all the bolts for inspection/ mag flux or just replace 1 or all?

BTW - I always loved your original thread on rebuilding your own turbines, this one is in keeping with the number of PIcs. Quite the undertaking on the Skater overall - would you ever go back to pistons?

Glad to see you are still wrenching!
I had same thoughts...maybe Jim or Lycoming has an updated bolt recommendation with increased fillet or material change etc..seems like an odd failure for a relatively cool area. If not festidious use of the torque wrench (or stretch) and recommended lubricant!
Looks like the lockplate got away..can they get into combustor from there...nice you found it "early"!

I am assuming it happens enough for Jim to call it out.
I had the motors in and out so much as i am 75 percent complete on the fixed bpm installation and as one could imagine i was working with lots of
parts and rigging dragged about. Really thought it was my doing!
the bolts have sps stamped on them dont know if there original.
Maybe Jim will comment on this.
sometimes practicality kicks in and i start thinking center console with clamp ons. Nahhhh
I continue to help and build some good old Chevy big blocks for my people. Nothing beats the good old Chevy with dry pipes!!!
We caught this just in time it would have probably fractured the drain back oil line on that number two brng
Jim ironically has just repaired this same issue on a couple of clients.
let me dig up some pics.

yes great question the operating speed in that area is close to 26000 rpm it gets whipped around until the pieces are small enough to pass thru the engine.
god what a thought as seen in the pictures it made it by all those blades. EEEK
Jim had suggested it was the constant thermo expanding and contracting. They look like little connecting rod bolts.
Jim has sent overnight all the bolts and seals! His support is second to none!!!
Will see if they are still stamped by SPS.
