Most of the basics apply from assembling, what makes power, design, etc, for the big block chevy automotive, to marine use. Marine is mainly things like cam selection, clearances, valve material, valve seat cuts, and so on. But you still need to learn the basic fundamentals of the big block chevy.

Completely retarded..... just spend a few days reading up on the hundreds of posts here on OSO and you will have most of the info you need. cams, compression, reversion, exhaust are the big variables when it comes to marine engines. All the rest of the stuff is pretty much generic to Big Block Chevy's so any decent high performance rebuild book should get you going..... save the $500 for the gas you will need after you build your awesome motor! Here's one I just finished reading, not much about engines but it has some pertinent info on rigging.

It's not marine related but engine building none the less. This is a 7 part series on youtube. Pete the guy who does the video seems very knowledgeable and goes into great detail on some of the subjects especially the one about intakes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQFlaDhWsck I would love to see Eddie Young, Alex Haxby, Bob Madera, or any other marine builder out together something like this.

I have spent alot of time reading info on and off this site about engine building for marine use and I just came across this book and ordered it...
How to Build Big-Inch Chevy Small Blocks by Graham Hansen

I know its not marine based but may give me some nice info, it has great reviews on amazon, and for about $20 its not a risk if I already know everything in it.

He definitely goes into great detail and is a very well educated person. In one of the videos I believe he mentions having a phd in mechanical engineering, so he a very smart individual. I also like the fact that he gives out his phone number to answer any questions anyone may have, and responds to the comments at the bottom of the page.
