Some are...Okay, many are.

Example: Go look at a 1987-1995 GM 4.3/5.0/5.7/7.4L Truck Distributor and Coil and Throttle Body Injection unit. Then, go look at a Mercruiser EST / Voyager Ignition and Mercruiser's Throttle Body Injection unit.

Running one of those now. Cheap, reliable, easy to find parts, and great timing curve

my crusaders use the delco EST dist/coils, all std GM except the modules are different as they dont use a ECM to manage timing, stock module will not work...tried that on another project !

Delco D1965a is the module, GM # 10482830. Most GM / Delco brand modules have a curve built in as 'limp home' if computer dies. Most Wells, SMP, Echlin, etc modules do not have the curve from what I've read (and the one wells I tried did not advance at all). Never tried the Sierra, crusader, etc modules - the Delco is much cheaper than any part labelled marine.
