This happened to me once on my 30 Outlaw. Out of the blue, positive post on the starter just broke off! For no reason. Was running the boat, slowed, turned it off, went to restart a few minutes later, not a sound out of port motor. Had to have that starter replaced...

I can almost guarantee that its the starter mine was doing the same thing when it failed.
