Why do my rubber exhaust flappers keep failing?

Just bought my boat last year and swapped out the short tips, old tips had one missing internal flapper and the other one would hang up so the previous owner put those "UGLY" toilet seat rubber flaps on the ends of the tips......HATE THOSE THINGS.
I replaced the old tips with longer versions, went with Hardin Marine stainless tips and made a custom "Stealth Mode Flapper Insert System". All stainless steel tubing, totally removable for flap replacement if/when needed, easy inspection of flap condition, quiet as a mouse etc, etc.

The new longer tips (transom mounted) we're ordered direct from Hardin Marine. Hardin make those long tips with the internal flapper already on them if that's the route you want to go. The short insert tips that go inside the long tips are home made with the Hardin Flap assembly welded on. You can buy the round ring and round flap separate.
