800 Holleys to start out with, because that is what we have. Will see how they do on the dyno and go from there. Being prepped now by Ken Jones performance. He is somewhat of a legend around the Midwest, but mostly in his own mind. I will most likely end up with fuel injection on mine if it turns out that I like this boat.

The 8-71 has a chiller, I would put one on the 420, but where would I find one?

Teague has them new of course. But, sometimes you can find them used cheap. Having a chiller, will really make for a great comparison build to build.

I am considering putting mechanical fuel pumps on these engines. Is anyone else doing this on 800-900hp engines? What are you running?

Short blocks are done, cams degreed. I set of heads here today and getting ready to be installed

Yes. The baker engineering mechanical pumps.

I`m running a baker mechanical pump with a regulator and tank return. -10AN lines
mild is running the Holley pumps self regulated and no return and it seems like no issues.
I was running out of fuel pressure with those at 6000rpm. Fuel gauge would start to drop to 4psi till I`d let off.

Do you know the GPH needed?

MILD THUNDER 02-13-2017 10:42 AM

The 900sc and 1000sc mercury engines, used those style mechanical pumps. Fed two dominators at 6000rpm.

Where did you have your regulators set? Just wondering if you had set to the max flow, I'm running mechanical pumps on sc build with dual carbs and have the regulators but wasn't going to bother even installing given the new build. Mainly just to eliminate plumbing.
