If you're going to build a new engine ?? Id look for a 502 short block then pick the cam, heads and fuel system, Im sure we would all like to see a Sniper build and dyno session...

I did a build many boats ago,and learned a lot. The education was eye opening and has proved invaluable. In the end the boat gained 1/2 the MPH I calculated and the total project cost was twice my original budget.

There's a 502/525hp on OSO for sale would be an easy swap. http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...-carb-ign.html

imo the 496 is a great engine in stock form but not the best choice for making power with.they will last a long time if left stock.i would sell the 496 and buy a 502 and build on it.speed cost money, how fast can you afford to go!
