Also my idles were adjusted sitting in my lift. Lowered enough to be almost in but not enough to move. Change the plugs as if the llugs are already fouled nothing will work right. Also you should make sure your cranking oilseed is around 10-12. That lets it get spinning fully before firing. I think around 4 pulses is 1 revolution. Mine are at 10 or 12

I thought of that and changed from 4 to 8, perhaps I need to go longer...

Up it to 10-12. Go with fresh plugs. I get about 3 revolutions before they kick. Go with a set of fresh plugs and see what you got. Also don’t overlook a vacuum leak. Saw another person with filing issues and they deans a leak near carb base plate.

It’s easy enough to try but at 16* I don’t understand why I would need to delay it at all. Delaying it is what we used to do before there was start retard. The log has a value for retard on/off and no events are recorded. I’m guessing this is not start retard rather the retard activated by an 12v input. Wish I knew more about how the start retard activates and deactivates. The manual says something about being active for 10 revs below 450 rpm but I’m not sure what activates it. Considering I have the initial set at 21* out of a possible 22* below the total of 38* I’m not sure why I even need start retard. Even though I have start retard set at 10* I’m guessing I’m only getting the benefit of 1*. If start retard was off would it start at 17* or would it start at 38* and then back down to 17* once it thinks the engine is running? The only other issue I can think of is crossfire.

Not sure but with old stock ignitions which were much higher at idle I would have labored starting. Since these have been on and adjusted like this not once has it labored.

It might just be me but it seems like the first start after a new Upload is harder to start.

I know that one of my engines has a recent rebuilt starter, and it cranks a good amount faster than the old one

I should’ve been more clear. Both of mine turn over the same but when I try to start after I’ve uploaded, the first start acts like The timing is too far advanced. The first time it happened I thought that maybe the box had to run through a cycle before it would operate has programmed.

Mild,

I stumbled across an old post by ICDEDPPL and he indicated he had the same starting issue at one point. Do you remember this?
