I know going with peanuts may no be the easiest route but with mild porting and good valve job i can get better flow with smaller intake runner size than large ovals, and that i think should be the key for the most low end torque. I will post the flow number of my unported heads in few weeks. If those flow number are absolutely horrible i may change my mind. Is there any variable duration hyd roller lifters for Mark 4 block?

An older post but still relevant. I believe, like most others do, that the peanut port will be a restriction to your goals.

My 360 casting heads are slightly better flowing than those 236 casting heads and support 500hp unportted, with big cam. If you look those stock flow numbers they are almost similar to stock 781 head. |

janiH,you came here looking for advice,i will tell you that the 360 head on a 454 is done at 4500 rpm,i don,t want to see you waste your money soooooo, pay attention, the 360 head is a loozer unless you install a stock 330 hp cam for low end torque but it will still be done at 4500 rpm.you are not the first guy who had visions of 450 hp with that head, that,s all i have to say about it ,sort of seems like you have your mind made up already.

Don't go with 088 heads on lower rpm builds, you are talking volume now instead of velocity. The 088 are suited better for high compression and high rpm. You said you were looking for torque at lower rpm. Also don't go with 2.25" intake valve again too much flow reduces velocity. Fierra gives a 40% discount for military/LEO/1st responders on valves and parts.
Oconner, I got me a 70 mph 242SS with this build. Chris 302 has some good parts for your build, just not the heads (IMHO). Let me know if you want my cam specs as I had it made for me. |
