thanks for posting! I知 basically building the same motor. It痴 a 7.4, but had a cast crank. So, since I知 replacing the crank, I知 stroking the motor. But still using peanuts. I知 not planning on running higher than 5500 rpm, so I think the peanuts will be fine. I may upgrade to aluminum heads at some point, but for now, this is it.

Sometimes you have to go what you have, and those 360 castings aint so bad at all for mild combo. i would not make full rebuild for peanut heads, too much dollars if you dont own a machine shop, but if your valve guides are in good shape, clean the bowls, reshape the short turns and get the seats cut, 30dg back cut for the valves. The stock intake port CSA is around 2.2sq" and puts your peak hp around 5000rpm with your 496cid displacement. In marine trim (wet exhaust) my engine made 507hp @5300, 564lbft @3600 saeJ1349 corrected power/tq, wich equals 530hp/590lbft STP corrected power/torque. with chevelle long tube headers, 526hp/596lbft J1349 power, wich equals 550hp/625lbft STP corrected power, so i think i can say that you dont need big valves or big intake runner to make well over 500hp marine bbc.

I have two livorsi oil temp cauges, next question is where to locate the sensors, one in the pan and one after cooler? also is there universal temp sensor that works with livorsi temp cauges?
