You can easily reach your goals if you use a custom ground Bob Straub cam.

Talked with Straub about my combo, he said i need 240cfm @ 0.400lift and 268cfm @ 0.500lift to make 500hp with his custom cam, so i am almost there with these heads. Straub said that he can also ground 3 lobe cam, where good an bad runner has different lobes and that will make even more hp. Would be nice to hear how that 3 lobe cam sounds.

The 606 hp peanut port build was a one off Lingenfelter. Ported until they were basically the same as highly ported large ovals. They said they had more $ in the heads than a good aftermarket set. It was an experiment, not a recepie. Article isn't online, it pre-dates the www. I have a copy somewhere.

why are you going with exotic cams and grinding on heads to make 500 hp with a 454?? dependable 500 hp 454s have been made for so many years and so many times, you can damn near close your eyes, point to random pages in the Jeggs catalogue and get it done. Hell I just made 650 using lifters I ordered from walmart. Anybody thats telling you that you need his super top secret multi pofiled custom cam to make 500 hp is doing nothing more than blowing smoke up your ass and frantically trying to gather the money to make next months payments on his maxed out credit cards. Same with putting a ton of work into peanut port heads when you can get aftermarket heads for little more than having a set of peanut ports freshened up.

I hate to sound like a dick here, but 500 hp out of a 454 is not difficult. end of story.

For 500 HP you do not need some one off cam. And the cam he is suggesting is going to totally mess up the airflow in the intake. There is a reason he is on all the car sites and not this one. Don't you think that if that worked, that Comp, etc etc would be doing it?

I hate to make it simpler than it is, but as Phragle said, making 500 HP from a 454 is really basic engine building. GM was doing it in the 1960's
