That filter makes the 51222R look small. Same GPM rating. Wix doesn't show particle size filtration for the 51222 to compare. Both flow about 3x the GPM of the 51794, with the one you mention having slighter finer filtration as well. Interesting info.

BUP- do you have an opinion on synthetic vs enhanced cellulose filtration?

When I looked that WIX one up I found
1) No Bypass
2) No anti drain back valve
Not sure I like either of these "features"
I always use the K&N, 3002 and it is white and the decals come off to look good on the white transom.

Here is another 2 qt filter with anti drainback and bypass valve.
Moroso Race Oil Filters 22461

yea , would be easier changing filters with the drain back feature,
i slip a small pan under my filters, to catch oil,
usually works but..........

maybe the moroso would be good..
same money as the 51794 filter..

good ideas....
as always good info.......

My BAD I MET this one as its a 5 micron rating. I fixed my post above make sure its the XE - NAPA or WIX and still flows a ton

https://www.fleetfilter.com/filter/51792XE.html

BUP 12-27-2018 04:08 PM

The XE has a Microglass media and 5 micron rated. Also the XE does have 20 psi less of the burst pressure of 280 psi compared to the 300 psi of the NON XE.

The NON XE and XE still flow the same 28 - 30 GPM

I would chose the XE version. especially for a new and or rebuilt engine break in

i think the 51794 , per glenamy 242ss is the one

thanks...

the 51794 wix holds at best a quart and a 1/3 rd.

My question is ! Why do you guys inquire about what filter to use in wix while you could simply use the merc one and save time? My engine builder also uses wix and i change them to merc before i even leave the dock !

The Merc filters cost more and are not as good.
Personally, I use Mobil 1 filters. They filter better, flow more and use a synthetic filter element that will not swell with moisture.

To verify OSO posted opinions, I called Mercury Racing tech support directly and asked what the filter was in the 700SCI engines and he looked it up and said it was a "WIX 51222R". Innovation marine installed the Mercury Filters which were $71.00 ea. because they are a "Merc" shop, however, the boat has had the WIX 51222R's in it for years prior to this last service.

i think the 51794r is the big brother to the 51222r??
I think the 51794r???
Down side on this filter is no bypass
valve or anit drain back..
51792XE GOOD NUMBER ALSO MAYBE A TRUE 2 QUART FILTER , 12 IN TALL VS 51794 IS 8 IN TALL
just looking at the seal on 51794 and 51792xe,,they dont look to be same od??
if there are , i think the 51792xe is choice. but it is pricey at 32 buck

well there are different size seals
the 51792xe, 51222r seal is too large
i need filter with seal size of 51061 , 60,,51794
