Default Spark plug wire question

Okay guys, don’t murder me over this question.... I wanna replace my old stock 1989 spark plug wires on my 1990 454 mag. I see the part number 3q89 and I saw one wire that said 4q89. I’m having trouble finding them online and I’d rather skip a store where I’ll be charged way more. Any info and or links would be awesome, eBay is usually my go to for parts.

The last two#'s stamped on the ignition wires from Mercruiser are the year the wires are made. Nice feature so we know how old they are. If 89 is last two #'s on the wires, yours are original as they where made in 1989. Yup, that old...lol...I removed a set of 88's on a boat last year....amazing...

Your engine should fall in this serial # range in link below. If so, click on 'Distributor and Ignition components' for the ignition wire part #.

FWIW, I put Taylor Ign. wires on my BB cars but I cannot state if you will have issues on a stock Mercruiser/ marine electronics due to RFI interference. Some threads have indicated that problems started with aftermarket wire sets and resolved with a factory replacement set

(Hell yours are 20 years old so they do work!)

So these should work? Says it doesn’t work with 454 hi performance, that’s not referring to the mag, is it??

merc wires are made in mexico - bean counter made

Your ebay wires are the china ones good luck with those. Maybe a total of 3 USA dollars went into building those ebay wires, my guess is 2 bucks went into those build set of wires. And Im sure the emi and rfi is thru the roof.

For a small jist of info - Marine engines have wire harnesses all over the place thats why one of the reasons spark plug wires need to be of top quality including the boots. Also no air ever hits the engine compartments especially after shut down then heat soak takes place.

I ordered and built the plug end of Moroso 8.8mm's for a big block and hadn't had an issue with them in several years. Boat year round.
