Standing the engine hatch up vertical helped in my case. I suspended it from the rafters in my garage. Also, use a thick moving blanket and lay across the top of the motors when needed (taking note of anything you might break). Often just taking a completely different approach than your first try will net you the right access and leverage.

well , your not alone as too fun of changing plugs
i have stelling headers, cant even see plugs
must get to best way you can,,,
i get most of mine from underneath
get a little piece of windshield washer hose , about 1 1/2 long, force it on a 1/4 bolt
put on plug , great for starting plug , great for putting plugs back in..
learned this trick years ago on my super gas car

I'm soaking this in! Thanks!!! Not for the faint of heart.

On my AT, I had room to actually slide myself into the gunwales beside the motor. I'd lay a moving blanket in there, and wiggle in, taking tools and 4 spark plugs with me. This would help for the outer plugs on each motor. You can't really do this on a hot day unless you are inside with AC. You will get so sweaty that you can't hold onto anything.

Find a reason to pull one of the engs, then it's easy. :ernaehrung004:
My bilge is pretty tight with twin BBCs. I've found that removing the hatch lift actuator helps with access between the engs, but it's still a royal b!tch.
If you do remove the hatch lift actuator, be sure to positively secure the hatch from overhead. If that thing falls down while you're laying across the eng, it's going to get real ugly real fast.
