Oil remote thermostat...

I am planning on replacing my BBC Gen V oil remote adapter with a Hardin thermostatic adapter. Any secrets/advice for getting the old one off?

after you unhook the hoses...the center fitting should unscrew and come out and the adapter should come right off.
I had an older style on my old scarab where it has a screw on cover with a hex head...used a socket wrench to unscrew the cover and then you had to unscrew two long bolts to take off the adapter....easy either way.

Thanks, I am reading all kinds of information about 11 psi and 30 psi by-passes, block-off plates, etc...(Mark 4, Gen V, etc...)
The original pro engine builder is retired and I gotta assume he did the right stuff when the basic remote adapter was installed.
I will try your suggestion (#9).

Tom, remember, though water boils off at 212, that doesn't mean that it isn't removing water from the oil at lower temperatures. Steam begins to form around 175 degrees and will be ingested through crankshaft ventilation. It would be good to see what the sump temps look like via an infrared temp gun aimed at the pan.
Your engines have been running well for a good amount of time and you're asking for a whole heap of redesign to add thermostatic control at the oil filter pad. Not sure I'd mess with this. It will be easier to find a cooler with a built-in thermostat, or replace the remote filter setup with an HP500 combo oil filter/thermostat assembly (I have a pair of these that I might consider selling).
