Default Melling oil pump / oil pan

Hello

I installed a Melling 10778 pump which delivers +/- 25 % more volume oil.

Is it absolutly necessary to install a larger capacit oil pan ???

Thanks in advance

I installed that pump in my twin turbo engines and ran the stock cast aluminum 8 qt pan that has a single baffle in it and a factory baffle attached to the main caps. It delivers up to 25% more volume but if your oil lines are not bigger, then the oil just goes back to the pan from the pressure relief valve. . Why do you want to run a high volume pump?

Hello

The Melling pump is often highly recommended,
with its larger oil volume (standard spring without increasing pressure)

so it's t offer the best of the stock engine 500EFI
thanks

People don't realize that at a particular pressure only so much oil can flow through the engine. So unless there is a problem with the clearances a high volume pump is a waste of time. Like PH said if there is nowhere for the oil to go in the engine it just bypasses the pump back tot he pan and creates heat.

If you put a nozzle on the end of your garden hose that delivers 50 psi and then you put the same nozzle on a 3" fire hose that also delivers 50 psi the same amount of water will flow through the nozzle.

Brazing is a good option...and can be heated up and removed or changed angle.

As mentioned...with the same bearing clrearances and oil viscocity, to get more flow...you need more pressure.

David Vizard just came oit with a good YT vid on oil pump mods to reduce flow restriction and friction as well as efficiency. Worth far more than a high flow pump.

You can still do the mods to your new high flow pump.
