PWW,

Watching the video, it appears there's slop in both the pin that attaches the ram to the bracket and the one that attaches the bracket to the tiller arm. It could be worn pins or it could be worn holes. It's hard to tell. I know how I'd fix this is if were mine, but not everynody has access to the resources I do.

The leaning, however, makes me wonder if the pivot bolt (that the tiller arm attaches to, and that the drive pivots on for steering) isn't worn, or maybe the pivot holes in the gimbal. that's why I asked about up/down slop in the gimbal. Try and lift your drive by hand and see what kind of play there is there.

Thanks. Brad.

I don’t see any play in the clevis pin to the left of the tiller arm. I’m gonna buy a Mercury/Quicksilver Pin 17-89229 (should be correct?) and replace that pin I took out. Are there any other spots I should check? I suppose where the tiller meets the steering could be worn, not too sure how to actually check for that but I think replacing the pin would be a good starting point.

If you are moving the steering in the video from the steering wheel and the outdrive is not moving, the tiller arm where it attaches to the upper swival shaft is the reason for the little bit of play. That pin you will replace, while it does look to need replaced, is not going to fix that little slop seen in the video.

PWW,

Pretty sure I can see play in both pins, but I could be wrong. But, again…. My concern is with the potential for play in your pivot pin. The pin that the drive steering swivels on. That lean you’re referring to speaks to that. If that’s worn, or the bushings it pivots in, you could be fighting that as well. Stand behind your drive, get a grip on it, and try and lift it up. If it moves more than about a 1/4”, you need to address your entire gimbal assembly.

Thanks. Brad.

It’s never lifted up, only side to side. The video is a little shaky, probably looks like that since I’m moving the outdrive side to side and taping.
