NEW ZR thread

I own a 38ZR, it is Hull number 6 with staggered 525's and 5 blade hering props. The best speed I got was 89 in salt water then 88 in fresh water. I only have 2 complaints about the boat. Donzi still has not come out with their windshield. The screen they have now is OK but needs to provide a little more protection. The other issue is planing. Maybe I'm not used to the high x dimension, but the 5 blade herings do not pop the boat out of the water. Other than that, it is a great running boat, flies flat, no chine walking and great looks. The 525's look and sound great!, I love the boat

The windshield did seem low to me. The planning on all these boats seems to take time. I always figure it's the difference between small and large etc.
If the boat is running in the upper 80's that seems pretty good with 525's. I guess that's the state of the art at this time for V-hulls. At some point you have to pull the trigger because next years will always be a bit better. I do like the reality that this hull is one of the latest out.
Do the ITS boxes do much and is it worth the extra 15k???? If the dealer in my area is light on stock (one 35) can one go out of state? I know with Fountain that seems to be a taboo.....

Lime Disease. Do you have ITS boxes? being she is staggered you have to treat her like a race boat come up slowly with the trottles to about 2500 RPMs once you here the motors start winding out pull back little let the boat catch then throttle up she will plane out faster. This takes a little getting use to all staggereds with Hearings will do that. If you switch the props to Maximas you will plane out a lot better but loose top end (Not worth it) If you are not ITS you may need another vent in the back to break the boat loose. The ZR hull is so efficent she stays glued to the water, as far as the windshield just got a 35 ZR in stock with the new raised windshield

No Limits:
I would not buy the boat unless it was ITS, The difference is unreal The Its is much easier to plane off. Also at top end without ITS the boat has a little dolphin affect with ITS the boat doesn't move. I just ran 1000 Islands Poker Run with our 38ZR and I started off almost last in the 60-80 mph class by the time we hit the first card stop I passed 45 boats and caught up to the 100 mph club. At any point I could have let go of the steering wheel thats how stable the boat is, we rocketed passed some big Iron and not once chine walked, pitched or felt the boat was out of control. I have driven a lot of Performance Boats in the 38 size and I have got to say this is one of the best boats i ever had the pleasure of driving; Even Poker Runs America complimented me and said every picture they took of me was your boat was rock solid and really looked like you handled her well.

My boat has standard Bravo XR's, we did ventilate the hull in front of each drive about halfway back on the transom notch. It helped a little but not significantly. Supposedly Merc is coming out with a 5 blade that will plane better than the herings and not sacrifice top end, we'll see. If T was ordering the boat again, I would include the ITS system.

Shanghied,
That's the same windshield I have on the 38ZR, according to the factory guys, they are still trrying to finalize a winshield that comes up higher and wraps around the sides. Are you a dealer?

Hi Mark. Yes I am a dealer in NJ and a Donzi owner before I sold boats. The windsreen height has been changed from a 3" screen to a 5" screen, Tomorow I will take a close up pick of both windsreens. They are trying to make a windsreen that looks good on the boat and will not sacrafice aerodynamics and speed. Actually the way I drive the boat the windsreen dosn't bother me at all heck after driving a Spectre Cat with out a windsreen at over 100 mph I guess nothing will.
