The whipple boat has 790 hp and should run around 95 (once dialed in). That is in the same neighborhood as me. Ok, so it does it on a few less hp. At those kind of speeds in a single engine boat under 30 feet the 1-3mph difference is usually water conditions and balls. Mine is still accelerating nicely at 95 but I would not exactly want to drink a beer at that speed.

Are others faster? Sure, the Bullet with the perpetrator's big engine broke the heck out 120 but that boat is tiny. One of the things I like about the 288 is that it is the size of a real boat.

If my boat gets started next week, I should be getting some pictures.

As far as the sunny goes, at the time I was looking for a new boat. There was not a sunny dealer close to Chicago or Wisconsin. The dealer I bought my prior boat from also sold Donzi. So that was one of the main reasons I went with the Donzi. If there was a close sunny dealer at the time, I may have considered the sunny a little more. Any that one boat is better than the other, I don't even want to get into that shouting match. I don't know much about the sunny or their pricing on the 288. All I know is that if all turns out well with the Donzi, I will have gotten a sweet deal. In the end all that matters is if I am happy with the boat.

Yes, that is all that matters.

by that criteria I'm in trouble...I can't drink a beer much over 55 in my boat LOL.

you're right about the size of the boat, riding in matt's 28 is NIGHT and DAY over my 24'.

1-2 footers that can be "fun " in my boat are boring in matts...3-4's that are "scary" for most in my boat are fun in his.

I can't say much about the donzi, but the 288 is pretty sweet.

WOW,

Is this a Donzi thread or a Sunsation thread??

Stick with Donzi Andy, you won't be sorry in the long run.

He is trying to stick with Donzi, but appearantly Donzi doesn't want to stick with him!! If this is how he is treated trying to buy a boat, what is going to happen when he needs factory work done on it?!?!?!?

That would be my main concern at this point. No doubt that donzi makes a nice boat...but I'd be concerned about service after the sale...

Ok so they have not been responsive, but what kind of factory work are you guys needing to have done after you purchase a boat? Is that a big problem for Sunsations? I have a 10 year old Donzi and a 35 year old Donzi and they don't have to go back to the factory for anything. Heck, my 10 year old Donzi is rediculously overpowered and it is holding up fine.

well I know of a local donzi 22 classic that went back for warranty work this winter. I recall it being a slight issue as well for himto get the work done...

Things happen, Sunsation, baja, fountain, pantera, donzi, superboat, apache, cig, etc are not immune from issues, it happens, I'd like to the peice of mind to know the manufacturer will stand behind the product.

How responsive will they be once they have his money and the boat is out of their hands and he brings it back for work?

It's not a question of quality, Donzi's are a quality boat, it's a question of customer care...and this thread leaves me to question that. That's all.

Hey, maybe it's just the perfect storm, bad economy, bad month at the factory, he complained, etc. Or maybe it's a sign of things to come?

I'm not in the market for a new boat, so my opinion is only that, but if we were sitting at the dock having this discussion we'd both argue both points, have another beer, and enjoy another day on the water. :ernaehrung004:

Thanks, just overreacting to the commercial. I counted 12 times in a Donzi thread where someone recommended a Sunsation instead. If is not like they are the only builder with a single 27-30 foot boat.:ernaehrung004:

I believe it was recomended to talk to someone at Sunsation if he did not want to be treated like he was the guy trading in a Pinto at the Mercedez dealer! If I worked at Donzi, I would ask OSO to remove this thread!!

show-n-go h2o 05-05-2009 10:49 AM

All the Donzi boats are awsome and in my opinion have the best lines and looks out there, not to mention i'd put my 03 28zx up against any 28 in the rough stuff. The 38zr well thats just 38ft of awsome.
The "after the sale treatment" has been bad since i bought my first one in 2004. No one is immune to problems, it's all about how you handle them, and so far Donzi gets a big fat F on both of my boats. But I haven't made a hate thread about it, maybe i should, maybe then Donzi will do the right thing.

Bo-G13 05-05-2009 04:02 PM

Thats too bad SnG...specially in this economy...that issue alone could put a decent company out of business the way things are right now!!!!
Anyone heard from Andy about the progress of his boat??

That's the point, you won't need any factory work.

Donzi Andy 05-05-2009 06:19 PM

All I will say is that I am sticking with Donzi. Nothing else needs to be said about that. All I know is that I will have the nicest 27 ZR Donzi has ever built.

Can't wait to see it! :ernaehrung004:

Are you gonna have some build pics to share, or wait for a "grand unveiling"?:drink:

Gladhe8er 05-06-2009 08:51 AM

Good to hear Andy. Sounds like things have turned around.

Fast-Truckin 05-06-2009 02:25 PM

Keep The Faith-brother

I think you should hang with donzi.Donzi,s are Donzi,s.They are nicer then sunnysations.Sunsations while lighter use less fuel and are faster but,Donzi,s are more solid and heavyer and take ruffer water better(size for size). My 28zx with its single 600hp ran with the 32 sunnsations with twin 496 that run up here in MD.While My top speed was 75gps the suns can go 83.I was still able to run in the big water with them.Donzi has been known for its Z-CARE service which donzi owners call Z-U-LATER.Good and bad storys around.

Donzi Andy 05-06-2009 08:41 PM

I will hopefully have some pictures to share once the boat goes into production.

Baja_man 05-09-2009 02:37 PM

I guess you are a gluten for punishment. I have been following this thread from the beginning and there have been several times you have said.....I will wait till next week and see what happens.......just get it in your head that your 2009, I mean 2010 or whatever year they say it is, boat will not get splashed till 2010. Any sooner and something went wrong. I too like the lines of the Donzi but would not have put up with this by them or any other manufacturer. Again, Good Luck!

Bryan Rose 05-12-2009 07:29 AM

In the mold yet?

Donzi Andy 05-12-2009 05:00 PM

As far as I know the factory has been shut down for a few weeks. So to answer your question, no the boat is not in the mold.

Bo-G13 05-12-2009 05:36 PM

:bsflag: :cuqui:

Tell them to :signs069:
Totally sux, I gotta give you props for sticking with them through all this....hope you get one heck of a boat!!!!!!!

Baja_man 05-20-2009 07:40 AM

Dare I ask???

Donzi Andy 05-20-2009 06:22 PM

Long story, but ask me again on june 1st.

Baja_man 05-20-2009 07:22 PM

We will....But Broken, broken, broken, broken record comes to mind. You really are a trooper on this one.

JW in Texas 05-20-2009 10:22 PM

I own one & love the damn thing but even I'm starting to wonder WTF!

Uncle Dave 05-20-2009 10:47 PM

this is laughable.....

This is a ridiculous story.

Shameful.

If his is how you're treated before they fund the deal imagine what will happen after....

No issue with their rigs, they build an ok ride- a little plain, but ok.

Dude, for the bones your dropping - you could get an even cooler custom ride from a slew of high quality West coast mfgrs. that would treat you like a client.

Uncle Dave

Uncle Dave 05-20-2009 11:18 PM

I feel compelled......

Take a look at my build I posted here as a reference as to the experience you SHOULD be getting

Im not here to pimp my pet company because their are a lot of great manufactures out there- but to show you how this type of transaction should be going, and about what you should be expecting equipment wise for your level of money.

It took my pet company 4 months in total with dozens of changes and absolutely everything custom- features were actually created for my boat that had never been done by these guys or that Ive seen on any boat this size -

Note the progress over time and time frames of the postings.

Why does the shop keep closing if they have orders on the books?

Take your money and run lots of great stuff and great people out there you can trust and wont begin the relationship with lies.

All I can say is that June 1st is the deadline to start construction. So, I will have to wait another week to see if the project will ever get off the ground. If it does not, another manufacture may been in the future or no new boat at all this year.

As far as why all the delays. I can't even speculate.

I respect your courage and commitment to your chosen company.

I have a similar level of commitment to mine.

I am curious to know ...If you are told on June 1 construction has started…will you feel comfortable that THIS time you are being told the truth?

As Ronald Reagan said- trust but verify.
I hope you have some way of knowing what’s really going on.

UD

Donzi Andy 05-21-2009 09:28 PM

If the construction starts on the 1st, I will have Donzi send me pictures and confirm the start with my selling dealer. Although, with everything that I have gone through, I am not very optimistic that the project will ever get started.
My fingers are crossed.

JW in Texas 05-22-2009 11:40 AM

Andy,
They are great boats & yours will truly be exceptional. I hope it works out for you!

PS: This is Donzi #4 for me so I am slightly biased...

So, I will start exploring my options tomorrow.
