Wow is all I can say. My Dad was heading up to a Donzi dealer this week to price out a 27zr but I will be telling him about this situation. I have been trying to push him towards a 288 Sunsation anyways. This will help me.
BTW, the 35zr is on my short list for my next boat, but i will be buying pre-owned. |
get in touch with mahopac. i am sure they have something in store for you that you could have in the water by next week.
i have a sunny 32 and could not be more happy with product and/or support from the guys at the factory. |

Since Donzi can't find any gel coat for Andy they are going to give him a brand new prototype guage.

"Donzi meter" Now I would appreciate it if you would go bask somewhere else. You are starting to get that cat that ate the canary attitude and it is not too cool. You don't even have a boat so I don't know why you are so high and mighty.:Whatever: |
I don't have a problem with the boats just the way Donzi is treating Andy. I am sorry if I am coming off as basking in this. That is not the case at all. I was very eager to see Andy's boat come together. I hope some of the people over at Donzi read how stupid there excuses sound and get their heads out of there butts and build Andy a boat.
P.S. I am not high and mighty at all. If you knew me you would know this. I am a very humble person and the fact I do not currently own a boat does not matter. What does matter is Andy is being jerked around and YOU as a Donzi owner should be pissed off that your "brand" is pulling lame excuses and lies to a fellow boater who is deperatly trying to buy a boat from them. Peace, Rob |
Wow, I just read this whole thing and all I can say is WOW, Andy Get your Money Back, They Oviously don't give a Sh*t about you. I have known Craig Barrie for years and can tell you he isn't in it for the money (yours means Nothing to him) They are just putting other more favorable boats ahead of yours. Even with a lean crew it doesnt take 7 weeks to build a boat (unless 1 guy is doing it all) I'm sorry to hear about this Total BS you have been through, It's actually pis-sing me off just reading it, Wow, Pull the Plug and wave the middle finger or get 20k knocked of for the BS factor, Wow, Just Fuggin Wow....
|
I want to start by thanking everyone for reading my story. It is crazy to think about all the interest that everyone has had in my saga. I have heard so many different opinions on how to proceed from here. In the past few days I have had dealers contact me on different boats they can offer me, to even a manufacture with some very interesting options. So, I have some big decisions to make in the next few weeks. Do I continue on with the BS from Donzi, or cut my lost time and start looking elsewhere.
After talking to Craig today, I feel like the chances that this boat ever happening is slim to none. The ironic thing about my conversation today was that it ended with I can't believe how many hits your thread on oso has gotten. Customers have been calling me and telling me about what this guy is writing. Even some of the employees at the factory are following my nightmare. You would think after all I went through I would atleast get an apology. Maybe I should have bought a 43 to get noticed, I guess the "entry level 27" doesn't mean anything. That is my rant for today. |
First off you situation sucks:angry-smiley-038: and I feel for ya but.....
I am Brand loyal for sure but at this point, PULL THE PLUG ! There are tons of new zr's out there.....Swap in a new bobtail 525 from merc, get the warrenty and sell the 496 ....you will be miles ahead $$$$$$ do the math... figure $80,000 for a new off the floor 27 ZR Bobtail 525 about $35,000 Labor $5000 you are now in it for $ 120,000 sell the 496 H.O. for figure $ 10,000 now you have a 525 powered new boat all warrenties are there and you only have $ 110,000 in it. Donzi has Fukked you send a message :grinser010: and be done with it. Rant over Bryan |
I agree ,PULL THE PLUG.In todays market you have options like never before.C'mon its boating season, why wait for Donzi any longer. Its obvious that your boat is not a priority to them.

It sounds like many of us are disspointed and want to see Andy get a nice boat. I hope that something works out for the better in the end:ernaehrung004: |
Point taken,
The deleted post was simply a duplicate (with spelling errors) After I deleted it I had a feeling it would look the same way you took it. The bottom line is that I hope Andy gets his boat. Also I hope Donzi can get back on track. I really like the boats. |

Sorry to read about this situation. We have been getting ****ed around by Donzi for months on warranty issues. I will never buy another. Customer Service should be #1 and at Donzi they can't even call you back, every time they have said I will call you right back I get nothing, then 5 days later I'll get an email from them. Chuck @ Donzi is the weakest person for customer service I have ever talked to and he is supposedly some kind of boss.
If you stick around waiting on them at this rate you might be boating by Labor Day and by then they could make it a 2011. With the way they take care of us after the sale I'm suprised they are still around, I always thought is was because i only bought a 28zx but now i relalize thats just how they do it. |
As of today, the CEO of Donzi has gotten involved in the deal. Craig claims that the CEO says that my boat will be built next week. Trust me I won't hold my breath. So we will just have to wait another week and see if anything happens. If nothing happens, I am going to be looking at another brand boat next weekend.

Good luck either way, and keep us posted.:drink: I like your new "boat description".:party-smiley-004: |

Good luck, but in today's climate there are a lot of guys who will bend over backwards to hook you up ASAP with a great boat and treat you like family. I like the Donzi's, but they flat out have not earned your business, period.
Good luck either way, and keep us posted.:drink: I like your new "boat description".:party-smiley-004: Hmmmmm warranty work...who would've known! |
Next week will be the deciding factor in the deal. If Donzi can come through on the boat and meet the concessions that I asked for, I think I could live with the fact I had to get jerked around.
You wouldn't believe the response that this thread had gotten. The factory guys at Donzi have been watching this thread, and I think they are on damage control at this point. In these trying economic times, no company needs negativity. So, hopefully Donzi can come through on their end of the deal. |

Not defending Donzi but welcome to the economy. Donzi had to lay off 60% of there work force, just like anyother production boat manafacture! MTI, Nor-Tech, Cigarette are holding there own. Banks are not lending money! Banks ar not holding notes for buisness's, Floor Plan companies are cutting back, Dealers are folding and going out of buisness. Boats get returned to the manafacture and they have to buy the boat back. Its a problem, buy a boat thats already built "No problem" The dealer will probably kiss your A## in Macy's Window. Bulding a boat to fit your needs now becomes an issue. Cost of production with a skeleton crew is duff. I have been to Donzi and in full swing they would work 7 days and nights. In this Economy the first thing to go is your toys. Boats and RV'S Foreclosers on boats is at a world time high. Thats why High end manafactures want 1/4 down 1/4 in the mold 1/4 at 3/4done and the last 1/4 on compleition. This will most likley be the future of boating.

Wow....19 pages and still no pics of the boat being built. Dare I post a link to the thread about my Sunsation being built?? There wasn't one negative comment, nor worry on my end about being screwed over. Hell I could call the owner of the company at midnight on a Tuesday if I felt the need to discuss something on the boat.
As for this phantom Donzi outperforming a 288...lets run 'em! ----------It's a Sunsation Nation---------- |

Very interesting thread!!
I will not bash anyone or any company, in fact I have always liked the way the Donzi's look...but to treat a customer this way is completely unacceptable!! Whether buying an entry level or top end boat, new or used, customers deserve to be respected...heres and example: 4 years ago I bought a 1999 Sunsation Dominator. I live close to the factory so I figured I would stop by and see what they thought of the deal I was looking at. Joe (the VP) was in the office and invited me is (yes, he still regrets it to this day! ). I explained the boat I was looking at but couldnt remember the guys name, but Joe did!! He knew the info. and owner of a boat his company had made 6 years prior!!!!!!!!! I bought and used the boat for 3 years and any questions I had or anything I needed was available from the factory. I bought a new mooring cover the second year, and instead of selling me the cheap little snap maker, the company let me borrow their industrial one for the day!!!! Last year I bought a new 32SS, 496 HO, nice boat but nothing super fancy. The boat was at the shop getting AC put on, so I stopped by with my better half to see how "her" new AC was installed and let her check the boat out. At the same time, the owner of the 1075ScI 43 footer ($$$$???????) happened to be in town to check the production of his boat. We ran into Wayne (President) as he was scurrying around with getting some stuff done on the big boat, but he took the time to stop and say hi...make sure everything was looking good on our boat....and invite us out to dinner with his family and the big boat guy!!!!!!!!!! Entry level, mid level or top end buyer...you should be treated as a customer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey Donzi Andy.....Sunny Andy is welcome at the Sunsation forum any time bro!!!!! SOX too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ernaehrung004: Besides, you have to admit this has a much better look: http://www.sunsationboats.com/forums...1&d=1234873813 |

All BSing aside I hope you get the boat you want in a timely manner! |

I could be wrong, but 525 is the biggest power they put in the 27 Donzi or the 28 Sunny isn't it???

I have a little 26 Donzi with an 850 that will run over 95mph. I have a friend with a 28 Donzi that runs in the 90's as well. These hulls love lots of power. With all of this Sunsation talk and Matt saying "bring it on", I was wondering if there were any folks doing something like that. The 288 is a nice looking hull and is heavily touted, I was wondering how it handled with some larger hp. It would be a cool project. Someone has bound to have done it. |
"They" would be the people that build the boat...or in the case of this thread, don't build the boat. I thought you were referring to factory boats.
|
Since seeing the sunsation boys get called out I guess I'll share my story as well.
1. I don't own a sunsation, I own a used boat, and before I bought the boat I called the owner of the company, yes the owner, and spoke to him for hours on more then one occasion about the exact boat I was purchasing, he even emailed me pictures of my boat while he was building and rigging it....5 years after he built the boat. I can pick up the phone and get a return call from him anytime I have a question about the boat and he is there to help and offer whatever I need. 2. I run with mattmiller and bo-g. Matt and bo-g had their new to them sunsations out, along with a guy who had just purchased a 96 sunsation. We bumped into the sunsation crew at a dockside restaraunt while they were testing an F4 for a customer. They picked up the tab for the entire table, including me (a non sunsation owner, and the other guy who had just purchased a 12 year old used boat). 3. I've ran into factory employees out on the water while either testing new boats, delivering mattmiller's boat, or just at the ramp. Each and every time they have commented nicely on how my smaller boat handled, looked, was built, etc. If I were to purchase another boat I would probably stick with my brand, but I would have a hard time not considering a sunsation and comparing it. The level of customer service I have witnessed first hand is outstanding. I would have told Donzi to shove it months ago and found a different boat builder. Good luck with your boat. BTW, Mattmillers sunny runs almost as fast as the 90+ donzi's with significantly less power, haven ridden on that boat numerous times and driven it myself I can say confidently that with the power mentioned on the two 90+ donzi's I would put my money on matt's sunny coming very close to triple digits. |

A. 80 is a far cry from 95 so I would not say it is almost as fast B. So with comparable power his boat would run like mine but nobody really knows yet. I would think that the 288 would be happy at those numbers, I was just curious if it had been done. For the record, I have not heard about it being done in a 27ZR either. For the dough he is talking about he could pick up a like new 27ZR, drop in some nice big warranteed power and be flying. |

(I am not a sterndive guy so I don't know) But the boat ran almost 80 with the wrong prop and everything bone stock on day one. I could barely pull on him and my boat runs 80+ consistently. He's added quite a bit of speed just by changing props and tweaking his set up...I'd love to see what would happen with another 350 HP. |

I am pretty sure the whippled 525 doesn't make 850 hp. |

how is close to 85 with a few tweaks to set up and 350 less horsepower in comparison?
|
Donzi had an customer order a 27zr with a 600. They had the guy sign a waiver. That is the last I heard of that deal, whether it gets built I don't know.
If my boat gets started next week, I should be getting some pictures. As far as the sunny goes, at the time I was looking for a new boat. There was not a sunny dealer close to Chicago or Wisconsin. The dealer I bought my prior boat from also sold Donzi. So that was one of the main reasons I went with the Donzi. If there was a close sunny dealer at the time, I may have considered the sunny a little more. Any that one boat is better than the other, I don't even want to get into that shouting match. I don't know much about the sunny or their pricing on the 288. All I know is that if all turns out well with the Donzi, I will have gotten a sweet deal. In the end all that matters is if I am happy with the boat. |
