Outboard Cat speeds are always reported with no fuel, and no one on board. A lot of time with motor heights too high for daily use also. Its the only way to put up big numbers without the HP and torque. I have run 115.4 once, but day to day see around 110. I would think your numbers are very similar loosing 6 mph or so for day to day running.

You are exactly right, on both the fuel on board during tests, and the motor height. I could not have said it better myself( I did try in post #21, I guess I was not clear). It is so nice to see that someone else actually understands how tests are done and how to compare speeds as apples to apples.

For the record, in the real world, my boat with fuel and passengers, based on the most recent run (done at TNT earlier this week), is about 4-6mph off the fastest ever for the boat.

I was going off Powerboat Mag article about the 30 Skater and talking to Ocean Outboard and Skater. I believe Dan's Doug Wright (LOAN SHARK) runs 110mph. Conditions, weight, set-up, will be differant boat to boat.

I had a in-depth phone conversation with Dan yesterday, and his 32DW is very, very fast. It is amazing when those us who own these boats start sharing our experiences, we begin to see threads like this one, full of good, real world, information.

Day has allot more O/B cat experience than I have, and I learned some things. I have more professional racing experience than most, and hopefully Dan also benefited from our conversation.

I am a big proponant of the outboard cats. Weight definately makes a big difference.

My boat with 60-80gal of fuel 2 passengers (Robbie at 310lbs) runs 109 in flat calm water 8ft deep on the limiters with 26lbs water presure. In the gulf 18ft deep slight bump 106mph. Each human after that is 1to2mph in the DW which doesnot like any weight forward.


With just me and about 25 gallons I saw 113mph with buzzers going off. 118.25 with my 2.5's and a lid.

Unfortunately guys the 300xs does not turn the r's. In order to get any additional speed custom 36 or more pitch props need to be made.


Brett at BBlades is #1 when it comes to props. He makes mine and sponsored my racing program. My 3 blade wheels are 15"x34" standard lab thickness. You want a prop that will last. I have 100hrs on the pleasure motors now.


My boat weighs 4,670 no fuel with the current set up.


Doug can build a pleasure boat much lighter probably 500lbs and you would have a real screamer. My boat was on the heavy side when it was built so it made it difficult to compete with the lighter boats so I converted it to pleasure.

The DW32 is just a incredible boat. You have all seen them run on the race course but I should have video of my boat in a poker run in 4ft seas soon and will try to post it in this section. The boat really shines in the rough.


But the best part for all of these boats is that you can run and have a great time on 50-70gal of fuel!

Diamond perf is correct many fators come into play for the big top number. I feel that more speed is in all these boats but they are pleasure boats. We spent alot more time on the boat set up when we raced it.


Additionally, when merc makes this motor in a 15" more speed will result!

Thanks a lot for the info. Very informational post over the well my boat went x speed. As far as the 15" mids, I bet Wayne Taylor could make an adapter plate to put his 15" mids on your powerheads, you could run 2.5 lowers if you wanted too. I know he has done it for the 300x's. Are you running the same motor heights with the 300xs motors as you were with your 2.5's? 26psi seems like a lot.

I want to keep the merc warranties which will be voided with any mods.

What is the weight difference between the 30 Skater and the 32 DW? Just curious if there are any other 30 Skater SS boats in the plans. Most of the boats out there now are 32 DW's.

That is a excellent point. Those of us who have many years of professional racing experience, know just how fast things can happed at speed. Take a tip from the professional drivers, and be careful.
