Thanks for all your help D*ick!! I know I would have been searching for weeks to get a 1/10 of the information you gave. I am trying to get a lead and cost on the remaining parts I need to complete this job up in Canada. If I can't find anything I will give Sterndrivespec a call for the parts. 315-623-7642.

Again, I really appreciate you expertise and wiliness to help. I may give you a call once I get everything in hand

Thanks Again

Mike

The new bearing is. 125 thick. You need. 051,. 054 or. 057 shim. If you had. 091 you use. 051 ect

Is it a supplement to manual 28 or is it manual 28?

It does have proceedures for checking backlash in the lowers

Does Merc have a customer service manual, and a dealer

more info in it than the customer service manual does ?

The several that I've had apart are still going strong,
( knock on wood) but, the set up proceedures listed in my
manuals seem very basic, compared to set up proceedures
for a differential in a car, truck, or in our case, a forklift.

I like to check tooth contact, just to see where the
teeth are riding.

I have the upper gears out of my XR's getting cryo treated,
when I reassemble these I'll check backlash and see where they come in at.
How do you do you check the backlash? I can't find a manual that talks about checking backlash on the XR upper

Bringing back and old post with good info.

Does anyone know where the "Supplement #28" that describes the procedure for pinion depth and backlash can be found? I cant seem to find it anywhere...
