Default trim problem pls help

I can trim the drive down......but using the throttle switch to trim it up does nothing, I can use the "trailer trim switch" and it trims very slowly to a certain point. I've adjusted the trim indicaters on the drive but this made no difference.

Also when running in the water it trims down fine, but when trying to come up the trim pump sounds like its all over the place, it whirls up and starts spinning all over the place........any suggestions???

Had this happen to me not too long ago.

If the motor continues to run but it looses it's lifting ability the pickups are probably clogged. The resevoir will build up sludge at the bottom and clog the mesh socks on the ends of the pickups. Disconnect the lines and pull the pump out of the boat. Remove the resevoir and dispose of the oil. Clean the resevoir out and also clean the mesh socks.

OK I think I have the trim indicators screwed up also, gauge reads that the trim is up even though it's not.

Is taking the pump out a fairly easy job.......trying to figure out if this is something I can do.

Are there any special tools that are needed to get the pump out? I also noticed on the starboard trim adjustment that one of the wires is cut just a little, wonder if this has anything to do with it.

I'd like to tackle this job myself, can anyone tell me if it's fairly easy or ????

If you look at the trim pump you will see a plastis resovoir that the oil sits in.If you reach down under this plastic tank there is a 10mm bolt that is recessed into the plastic and is screwed up into the pump itself. This is the bolt you need to remove and the tank will come down and away from the pump itself.Clean out the tank and notice if there is any sludge in it.OPnce the tank is removed you will see the two pick up screens hanging down from the pump assambly that went into the tank to suck up the oil.Clean them and then reinstall tank with new oil.Just make sure the O ring between the tank and pump goes back in when you reinstall.

You hit the nail on the head......boy was it nasty.......gunk was all in it. I cleaned out the reservoir and got it all working, comes all the way up now. The throttle switch only works going down and I have to use the trailer switch to bring the drive up.....I think this is just a faulty switch though.

This is due to your trim sender setting on the drive. You said it shows up even when the drive is down. Adjust it so it shows down when the drive is down and it will work fine. Its a protection to keep form trimming too high and damaging the U Joints.
