Scarab28, when you say replaced the shifter cable, which one? The one coming from shifter or the one that goes into outdrive. Was yours acting the same as mine... slow to go into gear? Thanks for everyones help.

Mine started as banging in and out of gear when shifting, then it would be slow to go into reverse, then no reverse at all, then it wouldn't come out of gear. I drained the oil before I brought it to the shop and the drain plug had about 1/4" of metal and the oil was full of shavings. Not looking good for the home team.

The cable going to the outdrive. Mine would go into reverse and neutral fine, but very slow to go into forward. Eventually it would not go into forward at all.
