Default Any info on NXT drives?

I am looking at a 700/NXT boat. Any info good or bad on this package would be appreciated. Joe Murray

i ve run a 37 active thunder with the 700 nxt packages in it and they were unreal verses say a bravo package. the engines after an entire event purred like kittens when we got back to the dock. and as far as the drives the gave us no trouble either. probably the only concern i might have is that the shifting is done similiar to a bravo in that the trans is a cone clutch type set up, if i'm not mistaken, which i could be.

good luck

The trans does use a similar cone clutch setup, but when in fwd, the input shaft is coupled to the output shaft directly. Regardless of rotation, that is taken care of in the drive. I have not seen or compared that shaft to the one in the Bravo upper, but in the fwd position, it is a straight shot. Very little hp loss, compared to a transmission.
I see very little breakage of the clutch shaft in the XR's, so I really dont believe that is going to be an issue. Just wish we could get the whole thing in a package without the motor.. Maybe someday, who knows..
We'll have to keep an eye on this one, but so far it looks like a winner?? Just my .02 at this time..

D*ck.

My guess is that after a year or two and the drives are well proven in the Merc package, they will start selling them as a stand alone piece.

I've heard of putting a #6 on a NXT gimbal.

Had to do with hydrodynamics over about 105 MPH on early NXT drives. Fountain changed out serveral on high speed boats. The newer NXT's were redesigned to fix this problem. The trans is still in the gimble.
