I remove my bottle when changing out the lube and clean the sludge out....then I blow a little air into the unconnected tube until I hear it come out the drive oil drain hole. This way i know the tube and bottle are clean and flowable. You will have to top off your drive lube bottle a couple times after running it.

Thanks this all really helps.

I have to remove, empty and clean my drive bottles every yr to get the sludge off the bottle bottom. Don't know what causes it as the drive lube is changed every yr and there is no water in the drives. The sludge could get thick enough to hold the float up from sounding the alarm if it where to get low on oil.

I just unplug the 2 wires at the bottle and remove the bottle and hose as a whole. The push clip at the transom for the hose can be a trick to undo at times.
Just snug on the bottom cap if you do take it apart. But I almost never take it apart to clean because it's a pain to work inside the bottle getting the flaot clip on/off. I just put a little gas in it and shake it till it's clean and then drain the gas thru the hose to clean it out also. Usually takes a couple gas changes to get it clean. Then let it dry real good before reinstalling. |
Thanks for the pointer. I must have overlooked the disconnect at the bottom of the bottle.
