I too would be curious oto hear of potential hp gains. I am though concerned about the negative of damaging a seal and as the drive cools while in the water it fills with seawater. I hear that can be real expensive since there is a limited amount of oil in the drive there is plenty of room for water.
Thats only a problem on the total dry sumps that run tanks in the boat and a pump on the engine. The second and third seal never see oil anyway. First seal faces in and the second and third seal face out. Mercs drysumps still hold enough oil when idle to the top skeg. When you running it drops down to right above the nose cone. Not as fast as a total drysump but less tanks, hoses, pumps and water!! I check mine after every hard day and so far no problems. |

Few shots of my conversion. Notice the #6 pump and filter is located in the nose cone.

Six drive gears hold up better w/just a spray of oil rather than submerged in oil we found.Gears submerged in oil had higher failure rates and the newer upper gear sets are nice.
