How do I get the U-joints out - TRS
The book shows using an adapter (I'v got a 1 1/4 socket over one end), then press it out.
i'm using a vise as the press, I tried that but nothing moves. I afraid to put more pressure on it, may break the yoke?? Please tell me how to do this. Thanks, Larry |
Been a while since I did a TRS. Make sure there are no clips on the inside holding the caps in place.
|
It has clips, but I already removed them.
Thanks |
Don't be afraid to put a little muscle into it baby. :D Put the caps under tension and then tap on the yokes a little bit with a ball-peen hammer if its really stuck. If they've been in there awhile it will take some pressure to get them to pop.

They have been wet (Salt water) and I figure they are'nt going to be easy, but i was scared to put too much pressure on it.
So, the answer is, I need a biiger Hammer, LOL Thanks |
YEP,,,bigger is always better ,,,THATS WHAT SHE SAID .LOL:drink:

You can put a little heat on them as well.
|
I agree with Audiofn. Fire is your friend................................
|
I was going to ask if I should put some heat on er.
I'll try it in the morning. THANKS |
Wear safety glasses if you put the torch too them. Sometimes you'll boil the grease out of them and it will spray out of the seals. A ball joint press like what you can rent at the auto part stores may be a little easier that a vise if you still have the shafts in the drive too. If you already have them out and doing it on a bench then nevermind.
