Question Replacement Skegs

Did I read here that somebody sells skegs they cut off of drives that come in that are beyond help?

That way we can cut and weld in a piece on a broken skeg instead of welding up and grinding back down a piece of plate aluminum.

I posted that info not long ago. I bought 2 new cutoff skegs thru BAM a few yrs ago. They were approx $20 each. A whole lot easier than shaping a flat peice of AL, plus they'll be the same alloy of AL.

Yeah, I know, they are thinner. I am trying to minimize the amount of welding.

Anyone else know of a skeg bone yard with sportmaster skegs?

It is not about thinking. My welder doesn't want to shape up a raw piece of plate. Welding in a used piece is much less work for him and less potential harm for the remaining lower unit.

How do u figure that ????

As soon as u start welding ,,its heat ,,does not matter if the weld is 1 inch or 4 inches ,,,u just got to do it in steps ,,,,??!!

How hard is it to cut a flat piece of Aluminum and weld it on after u cut the old part straight,,,and then u just take a grinder and shape it in what ever shape it should be .

Cost me 65 USD in a shop !!!!
How much do u think a finished skeg is ???
And itas nothing diffrent exept it has the shape already befor u weld .

I don't get it ,,,i quess ?????!!!!!
