If Mercury is aware of the performance of the Torco oil, which they obviously are, then why isn't that particular oil recommended for the Bravo?

Because it's not made for longevity, like the Hi Performance green oil is. It should be changed every 50-60 hours.

Your bravo is not drysumped.. I have only run Speed Master drives,Im thinking you could if you ran the correct weight..I still perfer amsoil but Randy with Marine Drives does all my work and believes in torco after many hard hrs at high rpm&HP levels on a large hull.. The inspection of bearings and gears tell the story about how your oil holds up!! Plus drysumps run a oil filter which removes dirt and metals..

(more than that so far in this thread)

I believe Imco and Teague both ship with Amsoil.

Yes in the #6s and no in your #4s. You need 80-95 weight in your wet sump #4s and would run amsoil.. If you drysumped your #4s you then could run 20wt torco..

We don't like being called technicians,we have a much higher education in BS.

I found it interesting that Konrad gives two different drive oil change intervals for thier drives - reg gear oil = every 200 hours, and if using royal purple, every 400 hours!!!!! Hmmmmm.........
