they may have forgot to put in the small key that stops the carrier from rotating in the housing, then the carrier and nut spun out together. I rebuild alot of these. it seems to me the most likely scenerio. I also have a pair for sale.

Good thought JIMG.With the carrier not keyed to the case and being a left hand drive it could have spun everything right out of the case.Probably exactly what happened.Bet that made one hell of a oil slick!
