Default 1.5 vs 1.36 and acceleration numbers...

Ok my question is top speed is easy enough to calculate but what about acceleration across the whole rpm range? Builing a little stocker for class 6 and never gave this much thought until recently.

Basically what I'm trying to find out is if I want to run a target speed of say 70mph but with the best acceleration possible am I better off running say a 1.36 with a 19p or 1.5 with a 22???

Actually would be interesting to hear how acceleration AND handling would be affected? 19 have more "bite"?

Based on my experimenting years back, the 1.50's will accelerate better. If I remember right there was about two inches in pitch difference between the two ratios.

I swapped gears from 1.50 to 1.36 in hopes of picking up a few mph on the top end. I did but it took a lot of prop testing and tweeking. If I had to do it again, I think I would opt for the orig. 1.50 and just try as many props as you can get your hands on.

Accelleration is better and more consistent with the 1.50 gears. It carries a load better and gets on plane faster. Top end was only increased by 3 mph on a good day. I had to go from a Bravo 1 28 pitch down to a Bravo 1 26 pitch and really had to have it highly worked to get my rpm's up to where they should be. The prop is also very easily dinged due to its extreme thinning.

Thanks guys. I had a 1.36 Imco at the shop, just hoping to find it a home on the race boat but based on the finds here and a couple PMs I guess my concerns with the 1.36 were warranted and it will not be going on. Thanks for the input.

1.5 is going to smoke 1.36 in acceleration.
