Default 71c vs. 72c

I was planning to bring these down to Huber for rebuild but I assumed they were 72C's before I read about them. Turns out they are 71C's. 1985 Cig Mistress.

Plans for the boat are 468's, no boost, mild cams.

Question. Are these strong enough for this application fundamentally (assuming good rebuild)? I'm trying to get this back on the water under a budget, so maybe I have few options, but would like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks, Randy

The 71's should be good for what you are planning.

Thanks.

If I ever changed to 72C's would I have to move the engines forward to accomodate?

The 72C's are an 1" longer, so the motors mounts would most likely need to be relocated.

The biggest motor the 71c was put behind was the 330 B-W, and maybe the old 370hp. The 71's use 6 clutch discs, and the 72 used 7, but both can be upgraded to more then stock amount of discs.

Make sure you tell Huber your intentions, so he can add clutchs to your 71's when he rebuilds them. I believe its just a machining process to either the case or drum, to allow more discs to increase torque capacity.

The 71's have 5, you can get 7 in them. We get 11 in the 72 series.
