TRS transmission oil seal help
Last year I made the bone head mistake of not putting the washer in the tail stock of the transmission to prevent the outdrive shaft spring from cutting into the transmission oil seal. This is the rear seal preventing oil to leak out of the transmission for the mercury transmission, not the borg warner transmission.
It is sold in a larger gasket set that costs around $180, but the seal can't cost no more then $10-20 dollars. Does anybody have a part number from OEM or can someone check a new tranny seal kit for the current part number?
Worst case I'll pull the old seal and try to find a replacement, but didn't know if someone has already crossed this bridge.
thanks in advance........jon

That seal can be purchased at a bearing-seal house. It's a Chicago Rawhide CR10050. Their about 4 bucks. Be sure when you put the washer on you put a o-ring on also that holds it back in place. Also be sure you grease the tail housing bearing through the fitting on the bearing retainer. Also put grease on the splines for the drive.
FYI...If you do some searching you can find all the parts in those seal-gasket-o-ring kits for under $50. Only thing you have to make is the 2 gaskets. I have templates for these 2 gaskets, if anyone ever needs them just PM me.

We dont use sring or washer. When instaling drive we use some foam from a pool nodel to jam into the ujoint to hold it straight. It takes a few shots to get it to line up but it works. Smitty showed us the trick after about 2 hours of fighting with it. LOL
