Lower photo depicts a SCX upper and SCX lower with a two inch prop shaft to run cleavers. KAP I guess what I am asking is what would it take to run a #6 style small hub cleaver on my XR. I have always wanted to try a tru cleaver on my cat. |

offshorexcursion,
My friend with the 36' Apache/SCX/SCX, did not loose 8mph. He was running within 2mph of what he was with the XRs. He has made some changes to his intercooler setups and he is going as fast as he was before.. this is only 96-97mph, not 120mph like Kap. The intercooler mods could only be worth 25-50hp to gain back his lost 2mph. If Kap hasnt broken his SCX.. I think you will need a lot more power to break one. Just my .02... Dick Data: SC upper/SC lower / standard length = 100.2mph SCX upper/SC lower / .5" shorter = 99.8 mph SC upper/SC lower / .5" shorter = 98.7 mph SCX upper/SC lower / standard length = 97.5 mph Hope this helps, Chris I have 930hp +/- |

My boat does 98-100 mph. Initially when I got my SCX upper, I lost aproximately 3 mph in back to back comparisons with a SC upper...using the same lower unit. I then realized that the SCX upper was heavier and moved the prop 3/4 inch reward. I purchased a 1" shortie, and put a .5" spacer in it. I was now .5 mph slower with the SCX upper as compared to the SC upper. I tried using the shorter SC lower on the SC upper, and it was slower than the SCX/SC combo.

Good info thanks. If I get a scx I would want to run the upper and lower scx for strength. Have you tried a scx lower on your boat?
I have also noted that on IMCO's 34 Nordic cat... that they ran SCX uppers with SC lowers... behind 900 hp motors. Chris |

Rik, what's the MSRP for your Bravo conversion? PM me if you'd rather.

I think you might want to ask KAP about his SCX.. Pretty certain it is toast. Didn't the Apache raise the X dimension as well or was that a different boat? If the same then this would get some of the speed back that was lost.

A few things are taken for granted on applications such as the boat already has full hydraulic steering as we supply the correct helm unit but the internal plumbing is not included for example and the boat has thru transom exhaust and a thru hull water pickup as the Arneson Surface Drives have no water pickup or exhaust system incorporated in them. But for the most part, all the bolts, nuts, washers, studs, indicator clamps, etc. are in the kits. Rik |

KAP broke the gears in his SC lower.

If the scx lower didn't slow boats down so much it sounds like it would be the way to go because by running a sc lower your back to square one of chewing up merc lower gears, I have chewed up plenty of them (1050 hp/ft lbs of tq), Smitty
