I have a 27 Advantage with 800hp with over 100hrs on the TCM drive with no problems. I change the oil once a year with the routine service and leave it alone. It all depends on how you drive it.

I put the SCX with Imco lower on my F26/Teague 800. My boat did not agree with the SCX. I normally run a labbed 32 and the boat rolls over nicely. I had to prop down to a 30 with the SCX and even then it required much more RPM's to roll over. The biggest issue was my boat developed a porpoise from 65-80 that I could not overcome with trim.
I never took it past 80 to see if the hop went away. Personally I did not see a reason to if the boat would not behave at lower speeds. I think the SCX is the solution to breaking XR based drives, but with the handling issues I experienced, I ended up pulling the SCX and going with a built MMW XR based drive. I sincerely hope Imco finds out what the compatibility issues are and resolves them. I am not looking forward to breaking another XR based drive. Because its only a matter of time. Well at first I thought Rvrrat was having a unique problem with his boat a DCB Mach 26. I can now say that it is not him----The cavitation plate is causing this problem. When loaded down with 80 gallons of gas and two big boaters the boat was hopping real bad. As fuel was expended and the boat hit 105MPH the hop went away---Why because the cav plate is out of the water when those two variables occur. Second, I ran a SCX with a cut cavitation plate and it performed nicely no hop at least none that I noticed and it seems to have cured this problem. On the top speed side I have not found the cure for the speed loss as of yet. I was able to run a SCX with a 2 inch prop shaft and ran a cleaver prop it ran good but the top end sufferred. It also needed some mods to run perfect but those mods would not be too extensive rather easy fixes. We then changed back to the SC lower the same day with the longer cavitation plate and the hop returned. The drive is strong and quite stout have I broke it yet answer is no. I want to try two more things before I write a review on this process and so far things are quite promising. Note: It is very difficult to do testing when the temperature at 10:00A.M. in Havasu is already 101-104. My motor is down on the power side even in race gas mode. On the flip side if things perform under these conditions it will only get better when things get cooler. KAP P.S. I want to post the photo of the boat running the SCX with a cleaver it is absolutely bad ass....it should turn heads for heavy V-Bottoms. |
I only have about 5 hours on mine, no shifting issues at all. No handling issues. I have a -3 SC lower on it with a custom BBlades prop that we are working with. the motor is a Procharged 572 that puts out in a de tuned pump gas state 1125hp@6400 and just over 1000tq @ 4600. It does throw a rooster tail a little off the Starboard side, I wonder if that may be the cav plate issue you mention. could you post pics of the plate mods you performed?

I have installed 2 sets of SCX drives with SC lowers and no issues or speed lost.

I have no shifting issues! The only differences for me have been this annoying hop and tremendous loss of speed. I appreciate your post with more information than most---your setup is -3 inches whereas mine is set at 0 or standard height. If I were to wager and bring up the lower about an inch but not 3 it would probably cure the hop. Why because at speed the cav plate would never be in the water. You are running some serious HP those Prochargers put out some juice. I am running a bit more HP don't really want to say in an open forum for obvious reasons. I will try and post up those photos I have several on my phone including the cut cavitation plate. I will have mine done the same way and several of my friends are going to do the same perhaps IMCO will offer them both from the factory. KAP P.S. Brian41 consider yourself lucky and have fun boating. |

Ive been reading this thread for a while as I'm contemplating these drives if I bump up the motors in my Tiger. Regarding your hop, It makes me wonder with the drive set at the current depth if your hp and torque arent just trying to totally push the boat out of the water. What is your slip? the resulting loss in speed would be from having to get out of it and the hop could be attributed to the bow wanting to shoot skyward.
all in all it sounds like imco is on the right track for this drive. Also at 100++ the hop went away this is because at that speed the drive cav plate is completely out of the water. My slip numbers are as follows: With complete SC drive and control prop slip was 18% on the limiter in less than a mile. With SCX upper and SC lower and same control prop slip was 21% barely able to hit the limiter after 2.5 miles. You can reverse calculate the numbers if you like but I had a noticeable drop in top speed with the same control prop. If you think you can spin a 98% bigger gear and not lose HP your lucky or your simply not at the upper eschelons of performance for your boat. I will post a review of my experiences here real soon. A lot of data was collected by me in the last several months. KAP |

Excellent thread guys. Please keep posting about your experiences. I'm close to making an SCX purchase myself. It seems like the answer.
