Default Merc Transmission broke

I have a 1978 IMP X250 single 454 , 330 hp with TRS outdrive and Merc Trannie. Sunday, as I took off from a cove, as I gave it power the engine reved up very high but the boat did not go.
I shut it down and had it towed back to the marina.
I thought I slipped a prop. My Mechanic said it is the trannie.
The prop will turn in reverse, but not in foward.
Does anyone rebuild these old trannies?
Any help would be greatl appreciated.
THANKS!

Sounds like you may have broken the pump. Take it out and pull the cover in the front of the trany and see what you have.

Thanks, I live in Creve Couer, MO but the boat is in LOTO @ Bergers Marina. I'm going down this weekend to take out the back seat so they can move the engine forward and take out the trannie. I talked to the guys @kcmarine and they said I might just need a clutch pak.
