Try to find someone that has broke an Arneson ASD8, guys that race them don't even bring spare drives!

Can you run an SCX, sure but look at the big picture.

-You will still have to be "easy" on that SCX drive, the Arneson will out live the boat.

-How many hours before the SCX has to be re-freshed? An oil change is all you will need with an ASD8

-SCX will cost you some power and speed. My friend had his ASD8's off the boat and we could effortlessly spin the input shaft with our fingers...amazing efficient!

-It may cost you more upfront, but it will be worry free. Plus there is nothing cooler than a 40 ft tall rooster tail!

thanks guys, I really like the idea of the arneson and rooster tail at 100mph I hear that these arneson are very hard to come by used, I was steering in that direction to try and save some money.............................

Buy the boat just for the drives! Problem solved and cheap too! Not sure how to check them out to see what condition they are in, but if everyone is correct in that they last forever, then this is the route you want to take.

now there is an idea, Just wondering if the drives are any good? I would only need one of them and maybe re-furbish the other and sell it?

Those are ASD6 drives I think, but yea that is the idea!

A friend bought a 1984 Hustler Ferrara rigged ASD6 boat just for the drives.

Hard to tell from the photo, I am judging on size. You should post a picture of the ad on here and ask for the drive to be identified.
